Question about Brother LS-1520 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Open Question

I have3 a brother SL-1520 sewing machine. I can't pull the bobbin thread up. usually you just thread the machine, hold onto your thread and hand turn the thingy on the side to pull up your bobbin thread, mine doesn't grab the bobbin thread. I think maybe the timing is off, but not sure. If it is the timing how would i fix it.

SOURCE: Needle doesnt hook bobbin thread while sewing

Our machine had the same problem, there was a piece of broken thread stuck in the upper tension spring keeping the tension spring open. removing the broken thread in the upper tension solved the problem for us

Put the thread through one of the holes. Then put the bobbin on the spindle. Pull about 3 or 4 inches out of the hole and hold on to it. Start winding the bobbin. After about ten turns, or when the winding thread is secure, you can stop the machine and cut off this 3 or 4 inch tail. To insure that the thread winds up and down the bobbin and not off the top or bottom, there is probably a metal bobbin tension disk that the thread must pass around before it goes to the bobbin. It is probably on the left of the machine and may or may not be part of a thread guide. The thread must pass around this disk on its way to the bobbin in order to put tension on the thread so it will wind properly. If you can't find the disk, which is a small metal button or screw with some type of somewhat moveable spring cap, you can just get the thread to pass through your thumb and forefinger. Hold your hand 6 or 8 inches to the left of the bobbin and pass the thread between your thumb and forefinger so that it makes the thread go in a direct straight line to the bobbin. Pinch the thread only enough to keep it taught but not tight and let it flow through your finger to the bobbin. The thread should go up and down evenly on the bobbin. If not, move your hand up or down to position it so the thread will wind up and down smoothly. It will not be necessary to move your hand once you find the correct position needed for winding.

SOURCE: Brother Sewing Machine model:CS8150 bobbin thread problems

The top of the machine is not threaded correctly. First raise the presserfot then rethread the machine. Bottom looping is usually caused by a lack of top tension. There could allso be a bur on the hook.

SOURCE: Upper thread wraps around bobbin mechanism, while sewing

IT PROBABLY IS THREADED INCORRECTLY. GO SLOWLY BY THE DIAPHRAGM AND MAKE SURE IT IS THREADED CORRECTLY. ALSO MAKE SURE SPOOL PIN HOLDERS ARE IN PLACE THAT HELPS TO GUIDE THE THREAD CORRECTLY.

SOURCE: Upper thread knots up with bobbin thread when sewing a stich

Thread test
Test your thread quality to start, thread your machine and LIFT the presser foot (this opens the tension disks). Pull your top thread straight back. If you feel no tension no mater how much thread you pull, your thread is good. If that your machine passes that test, then let me know, we can go to step 2. If not, try different spool of thread, same test until you get a smooth pull (tip: always check your thread this way when you thread your machine)
Step 2:
Pull on your threaded bobbin thread while it’s in the machine. Does it pull smooth and even? If so, go to step 3. If not, try a new bobbin (bobbins get bent or distorted if wound too tight).
Clean thoroughly in the hook and bobbin case area and oil 1-2 drop is all.
Thread knotting on the bobbin can be a lot of things but here's some guidance:
Tension:
If the thread is loose on the bottom of the fabric, it's actually the top thread is too loose. Think of 2 little elves playing tug of war in your machine, one on toip and one underneath. If you have loops on bottom, the top needs to pull harder (tighten top tension)
Jamming bobbin case:
If it is damaged from turning out of place once, it could have rough spots on it that makes the thread hang on it, and keeps making it turn over and over. Use a finger nail board (fine sanding) and smoothall rough spots. Then reset the bobbin case taking care to put the notch in the bobbin case in alignment with the proper spot in the machine (basically 5 o’clock) when looking at the round area where the bobbin case goes.

How do I wind sharing thread onto a bobbin on a LX-5500 brother sewing machine?

Generally, elastic thread should be hand-wound onto a bobbin. Hand winding allows the elastic thread to be wound onto the bobbin without any stretch prior to sewing.

How do I thread a bobbin on a brother ls 1520

You will run thread around the front peg that looks like a wheel in the front of the machine. There should be a graphic to tell you which way to go. thread the thread through a hole in your bobbin leaving out about 1/2 inch and put the bobbin on the small stub that will hold your bobbin while holding the thread. push it back while holding the thread tight press the pedal. Once the bobbin is full cut both strings.

LS-1520 Brother sewing machine hook pick thread up takes it around half way and gets stuck...any ideas. the timing seems to be right??!!

try changing needles
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread or lint
make sure the bobbin is inserted into the bobbin case correctly--if the
machine won't pick the thread up from the bobbin correctly take the bobbin
out of the case & turn it around & try it that way.

HOW TO THREAD THE BOBBIN

Take the thread-end from the thread spool to the left, around the bottom of the "silver" "button"; across the top of the button and back to the right to the bobbin winder.

Run the thread-end through a hole in the side of the bobbin spool, hold onto the thread (pull through about 5" of thread) and place the bobbin spool onto the the bobbin winding pin.

You may have to turn a bit to the left or right to get the spool in place. Push the bobbin spool to the right; against the bobbin winding wheel.

Press on the power pedal - keeping hold of the thread-end.

As the bobbin fills, the thead end will twist.

When you can not longer hold on. Stop the machine and clip the thread end then continue to wind the bobbin.

Can not get the brother XL2600i to stitch the top thread does not catch the thread coming out of the bobbin. so it does not stitch

Make sure the needle has been properly installed - flat side to the back of the machine.

Thread the top thread with the presser foot up - always.

Make sure the bobbin thread is feeding from the bobbin spool in the correct direction and through the correct guides.

Hold onto the thread tail at the needle and lower (by hand and not the power pedal) and raise the needle to pull the bobbin thread to the top of the machine.

Take both thread tails under the presser foot and to the back of the machine before you begin to sew.

How do I put thread on the bobbin?

Most machines have a bobbin winder on top of the machine under the top cover. The thread may or may not go through the tension above the needle, depending on the machine. There is a small spool holder on top that holds the bobbin and you thread your thread through the bobbin and start the winder. Some machines need the right wheel to be pulled out so the needle does not go up and down, just winds the bobbin. Wind it carefully as if you have loose threads, it can jam the machine and make a thread tangle.

The bobbin thread will not loop up tight and catches the top thread on LS1520

When you first start to sew turn your right wheel by hand to take up the bobbin thread to the top of the face plate. Pull the bobbin thread and sewing thread together out for a couple of inches to avoid a jam of thread in your first few stiches.

Brother won't sew

My Brother machine is sensitive. You may have already done this, but...

Rethread the top, following diagrams and instructions precisely.

I have taken the front off the machine to find a nest of thread in the upper part of the machine.

Remove the bobbin and bobbin case, and reseat both.

Check the needle. If it is bent even slightly or not seated well, the whole needle shaft can lock up.
