It sounds that the T'Con board to this set is faulty. Before replace it, re-seat the flat cable [LVDS], that connects this board to display panel. If here is any loose contact at any of the two socket-ed terminals at its both end, this kind of fault can occur. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Screen-shots to defective LCDs are given. You can compare it to that of your TVs' and can make sure about the fault. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

I am trying to help my neighbor. She has a Sanyo flat screen tv Model DS20930. The picture she gets is a thin line across the center of the screen.

Hello
Set the brightness, contrast and colour control of that TV to minimum. Watch it in a dark room whether ther are thin white lines across the screen, at about an inch apart, from bottom to top of the screen. If there are lines, that TV needs screen control adjustments. That is, now the screen voltage given to the picture tube went high to some reasons. If you have confidence that you can adjust it, I will guide you.
Open the back cover of that TV. Locate the LOT [Line output Transformer], usually one red thick wire is connected to the top of the picture tube with the help of a rubber ****** and clip. In most TVs it can be located and can be seen as the back cover opened. There are two variable control, fitted, integrated to LOT. Normally the upper one is marked as focus, and the lower one is marked as screen. You shoud adjust this control to avoid these lines.
It is a live service, that is the TV must be switched on during this time, and take causion in every respect not hurt by yoursef and the TV. Keep the children away from you, and an other adult person beside you is better. A liitle turn counterclockwise will remove this problem.

No need, the screen is indeed dying and there is nothing that even the can do to save it.
You must replace it, and quickly, otherwise when it will finally fail completely it may fry the video chip.

Try cleaning the charge wire. Move the lime green plastic handle from one side of the image unit to the other in the groove. If this doesn't work you'll need a new image unit.$$$$$. note: Make sure green handle is moved completely to the right when finished or black line will occur.

Thin horizonal line in middle on dark screen

The several thin white lines at the top of the screen is the warning that the vertical output IC is not getting the boost voltage it needs to run correctly. The IC cannot operate for long like that and shorts out inside, which is when the vertical collapses altogether and you get the thin white line through the center of the screen. The good news for your son is that he had nothing to do with that, and it has nothing to do with the cable F connector. The set needs to be serviced by an experienced tech who will restore the boost supply and replace the vertical output IC, and when I do that I charge $75 but techs in your area will vary, so be sure to ask around.
