Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

My E-Machines desktop just stopped working. A few weeks ago, my user was corrupted so I had to do a system restore to get to my data on hard drive. Did that and backed up to external drive and it worked fine for about two weeks. Just this week, I booted up, the screen had lines all over it and discoloration. Turned computer off and back on and now it won't boot. It just beeps when I try to power it on. Fan starts and CPU sounds as though it will power on, but all it does is beep. No display on monitor at all.

Thanks for the response. I've been told a million different things. Best Buy said it sounded like the video card, a computer guy at Wal-Mart said it sounded like the mother board or a corrupted hard drive. Someone else said RAM. I had no idea where to start. Since I can't get it to boot at all, I don't know how to back up anything on the hard drive. I've got most of what I need on an external so it wouldn't be horrible if I lost any data. How do I reinstall the OS when it won't boot and I can't see anything on the monitor? All it does literally is beep when I try to turn it on. The fans start and it sounds like the CPU is running, but I can't see anything. Should I just put the disk in and then turn it on. Will it auto-run?

That beep means POST.. your computer hardware is fine .. please just re install the operating systemm... before that you might want to back up the hard drive data using bartpe or some tools similar to that.. if you dont have that expertise. just re install the operating system .. you should get back to work...

remember beep meaning POST meaning your hardware is fine.. the operating system is just corrupted / broekn

How to fix No Bootable Media Error Message

FAT (File Allocation Table) is one of the most widely used file systems used now-a-days with various versions of Windows operating systems and memory cards. Every logical partition contains a FAT that consists of file allocation information and the information of free allocation units that need to be assigned to files. Although the FAT file system is reliable, corruption still occurs due to various reasons. In such situations of FAT corruption, your system becomes unbootable, resulting into inaccessibility of data saved in FAT based hard drive. To access the data after FAT file system damage, an easy way is to restore the data from an updated backup. But, with inaccessibility of data backup or backup falling short to restore the required data, an ideal option left is to use an advanced FAT Data Recoveryapplication that can recover the lost data.

To illustrate the above scenario, consider a practical case the below error message pops up when you attempt to boot your system:

“No Bootable Media”

As the above error message appears at the time of booting the system, you wont be able to access the data saved in the hard drive.

Cause:

The above error message because the FAT file system has been corrupted. Few main causes for file system damage are improper system shutdown, human errors, and virus attack.

Resolution:

To isolate the above error message and to access the data after the above error message appears, you will need to follow the below steps:

Run CHKDSK utility to repair the FAT file system. If the problem persists, format the hard drive.

While the latter resolution resolves the above error message completely, it also deletes the data saved on your hard drive. In such cases, if the backup is not available, then you can only recover your formatted data by using an advanced third-party FAT Data Recovery software.

A FAT Partition Recovery utility thoroughly scans a FAT based hard drive and recovers almost all data, even after formatting. The data recovery utility can be downloaded from the Internet.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is an efficient FAT Partition Recovery tool that recover lost, deleted, and formatted data from both FAT (FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, VFAT) and NTFS (NTFS, and NTFS5 ) based hard drives. The detailed help manual attached with the tool allows even a new user to perform recovery easily without any technical knowledge. It supports Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000.

My simple drive external harddrive now lists itself as Local Disk (F) in my computer folder, and when I try to open it says, F:/ is not accesible the file or directory is corrupt and unreadable. it work a...

If it worked a few days ago then you could restore your system to a week ago and it should recognise again
i see no mention of what oprerating system you are using so I will assume XP.Vista or Windows 7

Using XP then follow these steps

Go to Start
Then All Programes
Then Accessories
Then System Tools
Then System Restore

This will give you a calendar to choose an earlier date
select one and click accept or continue and wait for the machine to shut down and restart
Once restarted a message should appear saying if the restore was completed.

Plug in your drive and test for fuctionality.

Let me know if you need the procedures for Vista or Widows 7 because they are a little more envolved.
All tho the steps are simalar I would much rather give you the correct infomation.
Hope this helps,Cheers Misterdj

My pc

Usually when it gets caught in a restart loop it means the Operating System is corrupt. Sometimes an .ini file is missing or corrupt, sometimes a hardware/software update causes a stop error. If the data on the hard drive is not critical use the e-machines recovery dvd and reload the OS. If you need all data on the hard drive I would suggest downloading a "Live CD" like the Linux distribution of "Puppy"
this will load an os into ram and you can then "mount' the hard drive and back up all data on the hard drive to cd/dvd.
