Zenith tv, model #b27a11z. My remote stopped working with my tv. The remote lights up and the controls all work manually. I changed batteries, even got a universal remote with negative results. Its as...

Hi Keith,

First of all, thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.

My first advice is to confirm if the remote control is not the issue here and ensure that the fault came from the TV itself. Point directly your remote control's infrared emitter(Sensor) to your cellphone camera and then press any button key at the remote control, you will be able to see the flash of an infrared through your camera if the remote control is working fine. Watch the video below to have an idea how you gonna do this.

If you've confirmed that the remote control is not faulty, this is an indication that the problem is on the infrared receiver inside the TV. I would advice you to clean the TV's front panel infrared lens using a soft cloth, keep away all obstruction from the IR receiver, turn of the bright light in the room and check if the symptoms still persist. If yes, then the IR receiver inside the TV is already faulty and needs to replaced with a new one.

My remote control will not work despite putting in new batteries. If Lkeft for a few hours it will work a couple of times before not working again.

Maybe time for a new remote. But first, try some different batteries and make sure there is clear path from the remote to the unit. If you have a universal remote, program it for the TV first and try it. If it works, your other remote should be replaced or use the Universal remote to control the TV.

My sony kv-36xbr450 quit responding to the remote (rm-y184). I put new batteries and the remote lights work when pushing buttons. Is there a way to reset or check the remote ?

it is most likely the remote receiver inside the tv. you can verify this by using a universal remote. if you cant get it to work the receiver is bad.

I changed the batteries in my phillips universal remote and when I did it would not work. I have a magnavox tv but I do not have the code or know the steps to fix it

You shouldn't have to do anything after changing the batteries. Philips and Magnavox are the same brand, so the Philips univeral control should work your TV without programming it. Check the batteries and make sure your new ones are in facing the right direction. Also be sure the new batteries are actually good. I've fixed remotes for people by just changing the batteries again, even though the replacements were fresh out of the package. Also, did the old batteries leak in the remote? The battery contacts may have corrosion on them. There's also the chance the TV's remote sensor is at fault. If you can, try the remote with another Magnavox TV or program it for another device and see if it's working, or try another remote with your TV. If you need programming instructions for your remote, you can usually find them on the manufacturer's website.

No response from remote

Remote problem could arise from either tv or remote. First check your universal remote on some other tv and if it is okay your tv's infrared sensor has stopped working. You can get it from the local component shops, take the existing sensor with you. This problem could be from the micro processor in rare cases. Best of luck.

No response from remote

Check whether the remote control is working properly or not by using remote checker. Even if it is the universal remote control you have to set the code for the particular model. Otherwise it will not work.

TV doesn't turn on with remote

The infrared receiver on the TV is probably dead. If you're handy or know someone that is handy you could pull the TV apart and get the part number to order a new one and try replacing it to see if your remote starts to magically work again.

Remotes not working for tv

You have already diagnosed the problem, the remote receiver on the tv is bad,is rare but it happens but before you call for help try unpluging the tv from the wall for 10 minutes and then plug it back in and try it,sometimes this takes care of the problem,if that does not do it you will need the help of a servicer ,your remotes are working but the receiver is not processing the information. If you are familiar with tv service it should be easy to locate the receiver, sometimes is soldered to the chassis and sometimes is part of the push button assembly and conected to the chassis by wires,if is part of the push button is easier to replace,if you are not too familiar with tv service be safe and ask for help.
