How to increase Virtual Memory?

In Windows XP
1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
7.Click Set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Special Note: You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.

HOT TIP: To stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file, set the initial and maximum size to the same value. For example, 500 and 500. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 512MB of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*512= 768

In Vista

1. Click Start button Picture of the Start button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Choose System and Maintenance and then click System.
4. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings.
5.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
6. Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, choose Change.
7. Click Custom to change the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size. See the hot tip above.

Remember to choose the drive you would like to use to increase the virtual memory. In most cases it usually your C: Drive. You can set the initial size and maximum size after clicking the Custom size check box.Remember its better to keep the Virtual memory values the same.

Also having enough available space is absolutely necessary for your virtual memory and RAM to function properly.

Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, then go to the Advanced tab, then click on the Settings button under Performance, then click on the Advanced tab, then under the Virtual Memory section, click Change. In the new window, change the Paging file selection from "System Managed" to Custom Size. Change the Initial size to 4092, and set the Maximum size to 4092 as well. Click Set. Click Ok and close all windows. It'll tell you to reboot. After your reboot, your virtual memory size will now be 4GB. If you have plenty of hard drive space, this won't have any negative affect on your system. You should be able to run your game now.

Well, for me virtual memory wasn't really the issue, although that was the error that was showing, I had to go through the install process 3 times, and especially work on Quick Time install to get it to work. That was after I spent entirely too much time messing with the virtual memory settings. Bad error messages can be worse than none at all.

Installing the jumpstart advanced 1stgrade cd rom that has 4 cds to it and I can't get it to install.

Jumpstart advanced 1stgrade cd rom installation.

System Requirements
Windows: 98/ME/2000/XP; Pentium II 266MHz (Pentium II 300MHz or faster for XP); 64 MB RAM (128 MB RAM for XP); 100 MB HD; 12x CD-ROM drive; 16-Bit color; Windows compatible sound card

If you are installing on a newer OS ie Vista, or Win 7, due to software incompatibility the software might not install, or even you can install the software might no work.

You can try using the "compatibility mode" in Vista or Win 7 to install the programs as "administrator" but no guarante this will work.

Alternatively, you can get a newer version which is compatible to your Operating System.

Hope it helps.

why the DVD wont play might be for different reasons... 2 broad category software / hardware 0.I ll assume its a drive that can play cds and dvds 1.software- u must have a problem with the drivers. Drivers tell computer's brain how to connect to each of its organs(parts like monitor keyboard DVD drive etc) if this is missing its like ur brain doesnt know how to move ur right hand...u ll need to reinstall the drivers then... u ll get the drivers from the website for the laptop Hardware 2. next try using a lens cleaner for ur drive it usually is an air can and a disc... try that ... 3. If still the problem hasnt been solved... the trouble maybe with the drive physically which means u d have to replace the DVDdrive...
