Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

Outside pictures are too light

Recently pictures taken outside with my cannon digital are too light, pictures taken inside are fine. I too am having similar problems.
I tried to shoot some still life and landscapes this morning and got the Err 99 result nearly every time. I succesfully shot 10 pics out of nearly 50 trys! It appears to shut down/lock up when trying to shoot brightly lit images like buildings or white subjects. I always use the auto light readings to ensure good pis; get beep and green light then shoot photo. Bad results all morning. Some come out, others are washed out, and most don't even register with the camera.

I tried the standard turn off, reset method, refocus, reshoot using the auto setttings in both landscape and floral mode. It would repeat err result. I retried using manual lens focus mode. repeat result. reinstall batery and lens.. to get same results.

Purchased a polarized lens filter to "correct" washed out, overlighted images in march when problem started getting more common. But it had no real berring on cameras success / fail rates.

I got better results with my 2mp camera phone.
Need to figure out what is causing this bc I depend on my cameras to record subjects for refernces in later paintings.

As a professional PGA Photographer, I never shoot on Auto anything...Manual only, digital cameras have a habit of giving the CCD unit the wrong reading...also, it sounds like your battery is not strong enough for that camera....try a higher Amp...instead of 1500mAh...try a 1800mAh ....wish you luck...you sound like a good photographer.

Pictures taken recently have a pink tinge, eg the sky is pink and skin tones are wrong.

your settings are wrong on the brightness and contrast

some of the power shots set up by using KELVINS as the method of balancing the warmth or coolness of a picture. Others have a setting for OUTSIDE Inside Halogen and fluro If its set on halogen and you are taking pics outside it will have a red tinge.

Fluro a blue tinge...

The pictures are too light, when taken outside. Inside they are quite good, but sometimes, if it is too much light inside, I get again too light pictures

you can set the white balance so when your outside you can tone the brightness and visa versa for night. it should be in the setting of camera menu

When taking pictures outside the view screen after picture taken appears as a bright burst of white light. Inside picture appear fine. Any ideas?

let me see if i understand. if you llok at the screen it looks ok, but after you take the picture it will record only a white bright image.....

in some cases you can easily fix this by goining into your camera option and restoring default settings. it is the exposure setting .

if you camera still giving you just black white images the light sensor in the machine ahs gone bad, it needs to be replace.

Picture is white

Don't know your specific camera, but it sounds like you have it set on manual (does it have P, A, S, M settings?) with a long shutter speed. This would let in a lot of light outside, and make all of your pictures blurry.
Change your setting to P (program) or Auto (automatic) and see if that helps.
