    I could not find the "add comment" but here is the information you asked;

teh TV is a color rear projector, Sony KP-61XBR48 a Certified repair company did an assessment adn they reported that the M Board needed replacement. the Sony part number for this board is A-1306-532-A. Sony no longer have this part available adn they provided me with the phone numbers of all of the other local Sony certified shops and none of them have the part or can help me.

What I need now is a replacement M Board or help repairing the current board so I can restablished the TVs operation to normal.

    Thanks

do you have a diagram, picture or lay out of the inside of this TV so I can identify which board is the M board?

  • jairo_parra May 14, 2009

I tried calling all of the Sony certified shops in my area and none of them have it. how about walking me through fixing the existing board? Is that possible? Other wise this TV is a pile of junk

Good morning, I really appreciate all of your help with this. I hope we can get this resolved so I won’t have to go out and buy a new tv. Money is short these days.

You suggested I buy the service manual and I would, but I will see no more than the drawing of the board lay out you sent me and that did not help.

On your last reply you circled and drew an arrow pointing to what I believe is the M board (not visivle on the picture except for the edge of the board to the right of the video/audio hook up)located perpendicular to the green board just behind the audio/video hook up jacks. Is that correct? Also, with the TV disconnected from the wall, is there any high voltage/capacitors charged up in the area I need to be aware off?

  • jairo_parra May 15, 2009

I have not downloaded the manual, I am not convinced that paying $19.90 to find out which board is the M board is a good idea. I will follow your instructions to hopefully identify the M board.

BTW - the simptoms on my TV are 3 curved lines (curving doenward) of no more than 3/6" wide each and next to each other. the expand from left to right and stay pretty much in the center fo the screen. no image at all is visible, sound is workin fine.

It seems that PTS Electronic will repair the M board but I neeed to make sure I send them the correct board.

I used to be an electromechanical technitian so I am good at usign a VOM. Scope, soldering as well as reading schematics.

As I stated in a previous update, I had a local Sony dealer evaluate the TV and that is how I started looking into the M board as the tech told me it needed it.

Local TV repair shop could be alternate to provide same board from any junk TV as KP-61XBR48 is an old model of 1995 and I do not see any part shop that can have M Board for 14 years old TV. Sony does not supply part for more then 6 years old product.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
M Board is called "Micro Controller" board and below image shows its location in TV.
You can download Service Manual of TV (PDF File) from Manual Zone for small fee.
    Thanks.

I do not think we could get replacement parts if we found what is bad in M Board. Best choice is to have complete board and replace it, if available any where, like I said try it in junk TVs of same / similar models.
    Thanks.

    Hi again,
What is file size of that service manual, I think it should be more then 10MB

On left side, while sitting at back of TV there is power supply board and right side you will fine M Board that has clear mark of M and its system control board. I do not know what are symptoms of TV and why you need to replace M Board and how you will get it repaired. It requires fair knowledge of Electronics, TV repair experience, tools like VOM, solder iron and skills etc.

If TV is disconnected from wall then it is safe to touch any board and just avoid thick red wires that are going in High Voltage Block as shown in below image. That HV block store enough charge inside.

I want to see what manual you downloaded from there so please attache it and email it to welcomejee@yahoo.com

    Thanks.

    OK,
I thought you are going to repair M Board by yourself that requires service manual but find out M Board is easy by reading M mark on PCB.

Sony KP-61XBR48 Projection TV When power button pushed, red light goes on for 3-4 seconds and a click is heard and then the red light goes out. No picture, no sound. Any ideas

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

I'm at an estate sale looking at a used Sony

As a guess, 400.00 to 500.00 if it does work. if it doesn't, it would be a no go. Since it is a Analog TV because of it having Picture Tubes, there is not much of a demand for it.
Hope this helps,
