Smeg Dishwasher Humming Noise

The dishwasher makes an electrical humming noise and the program code changes to _ 1.  I've switched the machine off and back on, initially it shows a program code but after a few seconds this changes to _ 1 and the machine will not start.  Any suggestions please.

Hi olsworth,

I think you may have something hung up in the pump.  This is a bad situation.  See if you can remove the dish baskets, and remove the strainer cover in the bottom of the chamber and see if something is in the pump drain area. I am not real familiar with the Smeg, But I do know that humming is related to the pump motor in a strain. I will study this more and get back with you soon.  Please do not vote yet.  I am wanting to get this solved for you, and it may take a bit of study on my part to get you an answer.  Please give some feedback in to what you are finding on your end.

    Ok Olsworth,

Please check the filters above, as I have read further the manual on your dishwasher and possibly the filters are clogged and need cleaning.  The manual states that the dishwasher wil not function with the filters clogged.  This may not be the solution.   I will be looking into the Display code _1 and reply shortly.

The code could possibly the Aquastop system or Anti-Flooding valve located inside the water intake hose.  The manual warns not to cut into the Hose to get to the Aquastop solenoid, This is dangerous.

The warning is on page 4 of this PDF file.

My best guess is to work on the intake pipe to see if it is clogged in some way.

My GE Triton dishwasher won't drain. How do I de-clog it?

Remove the dishwasher drain line from the under sink connection. Direct that end to a bucket and run the drain option on the dishwasher.

1. Does water drains to the bucket. Then your under sink hook up to the dishwasher is clogged. Clean it with a screw driver.

2. No drain water comes to the bucket then

2.1 When on drain do you hear a humming noise. If yes then your drain motor working. That means mostly your dishwasher drain line clogged.

2.2 If humming noise is like a fan (impeller) running then drain line clogged.

2.3 If humming noise is like a small struggling to run. Then something stuck in the drain motor impeller.

Smeg dishwasher. Fills but will not run

Sounds like the pump is jammed, the humming is probably from the pump motor.

Dishwasher is humming when turned on like pump noise but not starting the program

the first thing any dishwasher does is drain, so if its humming instead of the normal noise there will be a piece of glass or something similar stuck in the drain pump it will need to be removed and cleaned out

Dishwasher wont wash! just makes a humming noise

Without knowing the brand and model it makes it a little hard to anser but I can tell you thats the typical sign that there is something wrong with in some machines, the pump/motor assemble, in others the recirulating pump, but a technician should be called.

Dishwasher starts then pauses and drains.

Fixed! I had the issue where the cycle would start, the KUDS30IXBL8 would hum 4-5 times and then drain. Plastic folk pieces jammed in the disposer. These instructions took a few minutes (only 5 screws and a couple clips) to figure out how to take it apart, and it only took 60 seconds to put back together. Dishwasher wont go into cycle mode and hums

No model and brand name .
the way you mention look like the main motor jammed and making the humming noise click out on overload then the humming noise stop and after a while it will humming again and continue like that until you switch off the machine. If the dishwasher is old I would recommand you buy a new one instead of changing the motor.
God Bless have a nice day Dickson

There is a recall on the control board of many of these models, butyour problem is likely not related. It sounds like a plugged drain system or a possible bad drain pump. That's why you are hearing the pump running constantly. I have written a guide to help. It is here. Thanks!

Loud humming noise when dishwasher is filling up with water

your model is pretty new. just so you know your warrenty is 1 year parts and labor. 2 years on parts. it should not cost that much money.

there are two components that start before the circulation pump.(wash noise you hear)

first sounds you hear will be the drain pump. usually rattling noises if something is in it but it can make a hum noise if something is jamming the drain propeller up. which is accessible with a T20 torx driver. take the filters out and the mesh filter. and unscrew the screw in the base towards the left. pull out whatever is lodged.

the other humming sound can come from the next component that activates is the watervalve. make sure you dont have a kinked water intake line. otherwise its a bad valve. i have had to change a few of those water valves out already but not for a hum noise on your model. you have a new style water valve. when brands make new parts we get problems fast sometimes..
