The error message "print drum error and front cover open" on a Konica Minolta Pagepro 1590 MF multifunction printer typically indicates that there is a problem with the print drum unit, and that the front cover of the printer is not properly closed. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Close the front cover: Make sure that the front cover of the printer is properly closed and latched shut. This will help to ensure that the print drum unit is properly seated and can function properly.
Check the print drum unit: Remove the print drum unit from the printer and carefully inspect it for any visible damage, such as scratches or cracks. Make sure that the drum is not damaged, and also make sure that it is not dirty. if it is dirty clean the drum with a dry and soft cloth.
Slide the blue tab: Make sure that the blue tab on the print drum unit is in the correct position. The tab should be sliding easily back and forth across the drum unit and the drum unit should be locked in place.
Reinstall the print drum unit: If the print drum unit is not damaged and the blue tab is in the correct position, then re-install the unit into the printer.
Reset the printer: Once the print drum unit is reinstalled, try resetting the printer by turning it off and unplugging it for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on again.
If you have done all these steps and the problem persist, it's possible that the print drum unit itself is faulty and will need to be replaced. If that's the case, it's best to contact a service technician or the manufacturer for help in replacing the unit.
Please note, it's always recommended to refer to the user manual of the printer or consult with an authorized technician before taking any steps, this will help you to avoid any possible damage to the printer or any other parts.
Once you have the new drum unit, and are ready to install, just open the front door. Slide out the toner cartridge/drum unit combination assembly. Press the release tabs on either side of the toner cartridge and lift it up and out of the drum unit. Set it aside. Unpack the new drum unit and go over the installation instructions if you have them. Basically you are just removing all of the packing materials for the drum unit. Once that is done you need to install the old toner cartridge into the new drum unit. It just slides in and locks down. Then install the whole assembly back into the printer.
Leave the front door open, and press the Options key on the control panel. The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO". Press 1 to reset the drum count. Close the front cover.
This should complete the installation process. Just run a test copy to verify all is well.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

This machine has more than one drum unit, its a color machine. You have three color and one black as well as 4 developer units. You need to know which one needs to be removed. Shut the machine down unplug it from the wall. The upper units are the drums, which should easily slide out. If I remember correctly you have to flip up a clip on the front of each drum unit first to slide the drum out.
The green tabs that you have to slide are under the color cartridges, so remove the three color cartridges and you will see three green tabs, to slide the tab across the wire you have to first open the translucent plastic wire cover, then slide the green tab across the wires and return it to it's original position, close the wire covers, replace the color cartridges, and reassemble the printer. All the Best
