When A USB thumbdrive is plugged in, it is reconized but then it doesn't show a drive letter in "my computert" in order to transfer to or from the drive. The safe eject tab is present and does give a drive letter there but not where I need it.

You should try manually assigning a drive letter in the computer management section.

At the desktop:
Click Start
Right Click on "Computer"
Click "Manage"

Windows should ask for administrator permission if youre using Vista. Just click continue.

A window with three panels should open. On the far left panel, click the "Disk Management" option. This might take a few seconds to load.

In the middle pane you should see a list of all the drives on top, and a more detailed one underneath with what looks like bar graphs to show the size of your hard drives.

Look for a disk the same size as your flash drive that doesnt have a drive letter. When you find it just right click on the little box on the left middle panel

it should say something like:
Disk #
Basic
##.## GB
Online

And then click assign drive letter. There will be a pretty quick wizard which lets you pick what letter to give your drive, and then youre done.

Oh, never, ever change the drive letter of the "C" drive. Your computer will not work!

You should plug in the thumb drive, wait for it to recognize it, and then right-click on My Computer. Select the Manage option. Inside the Computer Management window, go down to Disk Management on the right side. The left pane will show you all of your local drives (hard drives, CDRW, USB, Flash, etc...). If you see your thumb drive listed in the drives, you can right click on it and select "Change drive letter and path". This will allow you to pick the drive letter you want as long as it doesn't interfer with any other existing drive letter.

How do i connect crw-785 to compaq armada e500

This e500 has USB1.0 and transfer rate will be slow. If you use Win 98 then install the USB driver (get on web) first. Install software then plug in the USB lead from the crw-785 and don't forget to plug in the DC adaptor for the drive, (e500 USB port does not have enough power to run external drives other than some older thumbdrives).

Missing driver

In general XP does not need drivers for thumb drives.
You can try use it on a different computer and format it there.
Also sometimes the drive does NOT show up because there is an
drive letter issue. You can see that in Control panel - Administrative tools - Computer management - Disc management and there it should show up..change drive letter and :-)

My computer will not reconize the external hard drive. The red light is on and the blue light is blinking. Help!

Listen closely to the drive, if it sounds like it is clicking then it is probably not getting enough power through the usb. You should have received a cable with a split dual USB plug for extra power. Make sure that both large USB plugs are in the computer while the smaller one is attached to the drive, this will give it enough power to start working. If it is not clicking and has plenty of power then it could be that it is mapped to a drive letter that is already in use. Under device manager, (right click my computer and select manage then click on disk management) If you see the device in there then you can right click on the bar graph representation of the disk and select to change drive letter and paths. This will allow you to remove the conflict and have it show up again.

You don't need software. Just open up "My Computer" while your cellphone is plugged in and it will show up as a USB thumbdrive, from there you can just copy paste the files onto your computer. The icon will be like your (C:) Drive but it will be another letter.

Unable to access thumbdrive

It is possible that windows is trying to assign a drive letter to the thumb drive that is already assigned to another drive. You will need to go to Disk Management to see if the thumbdrive is showing up there and then try to assign it a drive letter.

Don't have a problem, just don't know how to use flash drive

Simply plug in the thumbdrive into any available USB slot. It will show up in "My Computer" - generally named the same as the manufacturer of the drive.

From here it's all just drag and drop into the thumbdrive. You can make folders, or whatever you want as though it were a normal hard drive.

When you're done, right click on the drive in My Computer and select "Eject" - then you're done.

Rescue data on optima attache 4G thumb drive?

Leave the thumbdrive plugged in to the computer and reboot.

Right click on my computer, click Manage, click on disk management, locate your thumb drive, right click and choose assign (or change) a drive letter. If it already has a drive letter, give it a different one as it’s already in use

Is this thumb drive USB specific? Some of the newer ones require a 2.0 USB port. It's possible you're plugging it into a 1.0 port.

open my computer and hit the f5 key on your keyboard for a refresh.. might not have posted.

try one or more of these
