Question about HP PSC 1210v All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Black cartridge won't print

The black cartridge on my HP 1210v printer won't work. It goes through the motions like it is printing but it comes out blank. I tried replacing the cartridge with a new one but it didn't matter. Color works fine. Am running XP, downloaded latest driver from HP too. Everything else on the printer seems to work fine. Could this be a problem in the electronics? Bad board or chip? Tried using the cleaning process in the software but it didn't help either. Got the printer from someone else, don't know if it worked for them or not. Any ideas?

The priter goes through the motion as always for printing but a blank piece of paper comes out. I have cleaned the print head but It still does the same thing. Do you have any suggestions that I might...

If you are printing using a color (not "black cartridge only" ) driver, yes, the printer won't print because it uses a "process black" when you use a color driver.
In other words it creates black using the 3 colors, and doesn't actually touch the black cartridge.
You will need to change the default driver to one that you create.
go into control panel, hardware and sound, devices and printers (win7)
right click the officejet 6500 (not the fax driver) and click printer properties
click the advanced tab, and click printing defaults
click the fast economical printing template.
Change "print in gray scale" to Black Ink Only
Click "save as" and name the profile "black draft"
click the newly created "black draft" profile, and click APPLY and OK
This will now be your default, and it will print in black and white while the color cartridges are empty.

The problem is not with the ink-cartridges. You've proved that, by swapping BLACK cartridges.

The problem is that the ink-jets that spray the BLACK ink onto the paper are clogged.
Thus, no BLACK ink reaches the paper.

Open the HP Printing Assistant, and open Utilities, and run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog the print-head.

No black ink is appearing on paper

If this is an old printer. The nozzles might be clogged. A Q-tip with a little alcohol might get some of that dried ink out. Be careful it could get messy. Also see if your printer has a built in cleaning test. you might have to access the test from the printer tools on your computer.

Printer goes throught the motions of printing, but what comes out is a clean page - no ink

Some of them do. Try going into the printer properties and disabling bi-directional support. This will not allow the printer to check. HP has set some printers to not function if its disabled, but hopefully yours is not one of them.

I had the same issue when I replaced the printer and kept the old cartridges I had just purchased. The OK button I pressed was on the PRINTER not the PC. You dont say the model printer you have. Mine is an all-in-one J6480.
