It should be dhcp, click the box that says automatic, if there's something wrong with your ISP's DNS server you can manually set it to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 which are google's DNS servers

SOURCE: Toshiba laptop running Vista loses connectivity

The problem is not Vista, the problem is the Netgear. I have seen this happen time and time again with both Netgear (primarily) and D-Link (often). That's why I *only* recommend Linksys.

Worst case - go buy one from Walmart (yes, they have 'em). Hook it up and see the difference. If, somehow, the problem persists, take it back, and you've lost nothing. But I'd bet (as they say down here in the South "dollars to doughnuts") that's your problem :)

Hope this helps - remember to rate :)

SOURCE: M300 toshiba connecting to locally, not connect to internet

Dear Shifsa,

Considering the fact that you are trying to connect to a wifi connection which of course is unsecured,
here are some workarounds..

1. Uninstall the wireless card driver.
Go to device manager > click on the + sign beside network adapters > right click on the wireless adapter and select uninstall. Restart the computer it should get reinstalled automatically.

2. try disabling or uninstalling the antivirus or internet security software. you can later on again download the a free software from www.hippo.com

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Anup

SOURCE: my toshiba laptop is a black screen asking for a password.

hi friend,

If you have lost or forgotten the XP administrator password, first reboot Windows XP in safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeated as the computer starts up. Then (in safe mode) click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes.

You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrators account and will be able to reset the lost password.

Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password.

You will need to add a new password in the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and confirm by clicking OK.

All done, you have recovered the lost administrators password! Source(s): http://www.hsinlin.com/tips/lost_passwor…

If it’s a BIOS password then there are several ways to do it, on older Toshiba's there is a “key” that you put in the parallel port to unlock it, or you can remove the BIOS battery (with the main battery and the mains out) then short out the pins for a few seconds (sometimes you have to strip down the base of the laptop to get to it, maybe half to an hours work if you know what you’re doing). If it has been written to a fixed memory, you’re stuffed and need to contact Toshiba with proof that it’s yours.
If it’s an XP / Vista user account password then you can either log in as Admin using safe mode (F8), or, as happens sometimes) you’ve removed/disabled the Admin account or forgotten ITS password as well then you need to clear the user account password file (ther are a number of programs that do this, I know which ones I prefer, others may have different choices)
If you’re still stuck let me know.
thank u for using fixya regards, sivaranjini

Internet sharing

Hi, Could be done. On the Dell XP - 1. Activate your Internet Connection Sharing. Go to Control Panel, Click on Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection, Properties, Advanced tab, check Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection. In Home networking connection, choose "Local Area Connection", OK; 2. Back to General settings, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties, tick Use the following IP address: IP address 192.168.0.1, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 192.168.0.1, if you know ITT DNS use them otherwise tick "Obtain DNS server address automatically." You have to connect the DellXP with the DellVista using a crossover networking cable. On the Dell Vista- 1. In your Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection, Properties, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties, tick Use the following IP address: IP address 192.168.0.2, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 192.168.0.1, if you know ITT DNS use them otherwise tick "Obtain DNS server address automatically."
