Cannot turn television off without unplugging

For whatever reason my model will not turn off.  I've used the remote, pushed the on/off button on the television and nothing works.  The only way to turn it off is by unplugging it at the power source but when I plug it back in instead of it needing to be turned on it automatically turns itself back on no matter how long I leave it unplugged.  Help!!

Re: Cannot turn television off without unplugging

It might be due to on/off switch failure.

Mitsubishi CS-31205 TV Never had a remote for this great TV, but, accidentally pushed a button on my Comcast Cable remote and the TV is now in "Mute" mode. Not the Comcast box 'Mute' . Have...

You are supposed to be able to switch the Comcast Remote to TV mode and switch Mute on that remote to change back to standard volume. If that doesn't work try volume up on the TV. Otherwise if neither of those work then check for a replacement TV Remote.

Toshiba 32A42A - Menu options pop up all by themself, and the TV is making its own choices. Can this be fixed or do I call a Preist for an exercism or just get rid of it ?

I had the exact same problem yesterday. It took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to find a solution. Here is the solution: It is not a stuck button or the television being 'posessed' that is resulting in the menu cycling. It is the fact that the television is in the DEMO mode. I was able to read the manual for this television online at the Toshiba website. On page 30 it states 'To stop the DEMO mode press 'recall', ''exit', or 'power'. Unfortunately the 'recall', and 'exit' button are on the original remote which I no longer have. The power button on my model is broken. I use the cable box to 'turn on the television'. In reality, the TV is never off, it is just showing a black screen when the cable box and DVD player is off. I suspect this defect in the power button has occured on other TV's experiencing this problem. I was able to push the broken power button to the inside and side of the television casing exposing a round circle that the power button pushes when the power button is not broken. I pushed this small circle to turn the television off. After about 5 seconds I pushed the button again and the television went on without the annoying menu popping up. Just unplugging the television and plugging the television back in does not work. You need to be able to push the power button, or one of the other 2 buttons on the remote previously mentioned.
Also on page 30 it explains how to activate the DEMO mode. It's not too hard to accidentally do, especially when you have kids pushing buttons haphazardly.
I hope this helps someone outthere in cyberspace! Kevin

My remote will not work and the tv menu is on the screen and goes through all the diffrent setting options automatically without stopping. TV buttons will not control the menu. Unable to make any setting...

1# First unplug tv,unhook ant.let set overnight.2# Reconect ant.Plug back in.turn tv on with button on tv.let tv run trew all its modes for 5 to 6 hrs.Don`t push any buttons!!!!! It has to reset everything.then try remote, when it starts to work, set new pin code.use your instruction book,to set all blocks to N,,Clear all favorite channels + erase channels in tv 's memory if there in there yet, takes a lot of will keep resetting, remote won't work.let it run awhile. then push exit, hold 5 to 10 seconds remote will eventually come back, check your settings reset them, be sure menu is set to STOP, it may start running threw all its modes again, let run couple hrs, then push exit 5 to 10 seconds to get your remote back.keep trying this. when you think the tv is working right, turn it off for 10 seconds then back on. If it starts resetting, let it run an hr,then push exit again to get your remote back,it has to reset everything, keep trying, took me 3DAYS to get it right!!!!!!!!! the only thing I don't have working is the pic size button,Don't need that anyway. GOOD LUCK.

How old is this set? some of the late 90's early 2ks had issues with the Gemstar module, then you also said that you unplugged the buttons, if unplugging the buttons fixed your problem, you probably have contamination in the buttons and they are $2 switches, I would replace all 8 (if you have 8) as I do in some of the CTC169 Chassis televisions, depends upon your level of expertise and such. This set has the Guide+ system and I think that you might have a Gemstar issue still, it is a little 2" square box that has 2 ribbon cables that plug into it, and is fairly easily replaceable.
