Question about Acer Aspire 3100-1405 Notebook

Open Question

I have an Acer 3104 and the MousePad, Keyboard and USB-ports are dead. The computer boots in black first boot, but after hard reset it boots fine, but no USB, Keyboard or Touchpad. Any one have a solution for this? I will try with a PC-Card -> USB host in a few days and i hope this can be a temporary solution.

if i plug in the AC adaptor when the battery is connected the Green "lightbulb" led is lit, and the orange "battery" led... the orange it later turned green .

If i have an EXT VGA screen connected, that one is also black on "black boot", when resetting the EXT screen has the image while the laptopscreen is black.

It is completely black...  No sign of lcd activity, i know how a screen looks like without backlight.

Battery and AC adaptor seems to work fine. When battery is fully charged the battery led turns green.

    Scenario 1.
    No battery installed.
    No AC adaptor pluged in.
    No EXT screen plugged in.

    1) I plug in the AC adaptor
    Nothing happens.

    2) I press Power ON
Power buttons LED, HD and "LightBulb" LED lit Green

    Fan spinns up.

    Reads a while from DVD

    Black and Quiet.

    3) Hard reset (Power OFF 8 sec)
    everything shuts down.

    4) I press Power ON

Power buttons LED, HD and "LightBulb" LED lit Green

    Fan spinns up.
    Computer Boots on Screen
    No Keyboard, can´t access BIOS

    HD> Loads Windows and BSOD

DVD> Loads Windows installer and waiting for User Input. No keyboard, No mouse, No USB

  • liljeblad May 13, 2009

first i see the ACER Logo, Phoenix boot, with Press F2 to enter BIOS (can´t enter that)

If the HD is connected it loads Windows a while and BSOD ofter e few sec...

With DVD installed it runs the Windows installer and waiths for Used indata.

With No HD or DVD it tries to intel UNDI Net load

Sometimes it says - previously Boot did not complete... Standars values read... Shading - something - and so on... press F1 to continue or F2 to enter BIOS. Don´t really remember all.

  • liljeblad May 13, 2009

Both Touchpad and keyboard cables seems to be in good condition, i have already removed them, cleaned the contact surfaces with pure alcohol and let them dry before reconnect them and lock them into place again.

No matter how fast i try to press (hammer) F2 it will not let me into Bios.

  • liljeblad May 14, 2009

I got the PC-Card -> USB adapter today and managed to install Windows 7.

there is a few devices not loaded correctly...
    still no internal USB Host

No Keyboard, Touchpad and so on...
HD Audio controller - (Code 10)

Any one knows if the computer is salvageable?

  • liljeblad May 14, 2009

No, i cant enter BIOS... dont think the PC-Card loads the USB host in DOS
I upgraded the BIOS to rev 3.13 but that did not solve anything...

  • liljeblad May 14, 2009

Nothing. i shut the computer down, and the morning after it was like this. =(

My keyboard is locked how do i unlock it?

Maybe you keyboard is bad or your keyboard has been hijacked by a virus.

Make sure you keyboard is plugged in good on the back of the computer. If the end of your keyboard that plugs into the computer is Round and it plugs into the green port on the back of the computer you have a PS2 (serial) type of keyboard and you cannot unplug it and expect it to work if windows has already booted up. If you remove this type of keyboard connection, you have to Reboot your machine otherwise the keyboard is locked.

If the end of your keyboard that plugs into the computer is Flat, then you have a USB type of keyboard that goes into the computer's USB Port. This type of keyboard is Plug and Play so you don't have to reboot if you remove it. If you have this type maybe the USB Port you plugged it into does not work, so try plugging into another USB Port.

Try booting in Safe Mode and see if the keyboard performs.
Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.

My keyboard in my revo rl100 doesn't work

Sounds like the battery in the keyboard is dead. Also make sure you have the wireless doggle that came with the keyboard and mouse plugged into the usb port. You might try plugging it into another port.

I'm thinking your keyboard is dead because of the battery or a virus has hijacked your keyboard.

Try booting up in Safe Mode to make sure it's not virus related. Turn the computer off, then turn it on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Select the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different because the icons are bigger and the screen is darker, this is normal. If your keyboard works in safe mode then you might have a virus that can't function in safe mode.

ACER Aspire L100 Desktop is dead?

If the hard drive is OK then you can remove the hard drive from the desktop case, and insert the hard drive into a USB 3 1/2" hard drive adapter case, this should come with a power adapter. These are available at your friendly computer shop.
Boot up the laptop then plug this USB hard drive adapter into the laptop's USB port. The laptop will see this as an external USB hard drive. You can open the various folders and files on this external drive and copy the folders and files to the laptop.
You can delete the Windows folder and Program Folders on this external drive to free up disk space and use this as a back up drive etc.
If you are not sure how to remove the hard drive and install it into an USB hard disk case, then I suggest you get a computer savy friend to help you.

Keyboard and Mouse completely unresponsive

Hmm have you tried an external usb keyboard ? if it works all you need to do is restore your computer to a previous date , one in which they were working :)

If not you will need to take your computer in to a profession for them to reset and flash your board, and if that doesnt work you will require replacement parts..

BTW plugging the mp3 player into the usb should not have cause that issue :)
