Hi, we have fixed many of these units in the past month and the thermistor will shutdown the entire unit if is has a malfunction. It will mimic a control fault but, its just a safety feature that will allow the unit to go into safe mode until the faulty thermistor is replaced.

You can test the wires with a multimeter. use the thermistor terminal clips for testing. connect the meter to each wire clip and turn on the unit. if you receive any readings before the unit shuts down, this will confirm thermistor failure.

I have a sta rite 200 gas pool heater. Heater ignites and runs for about 1 minute and shuts off. After another minute it restarts.

Try removing the Thermal regulator. also make sure you have adequate water flow thru the heater. If the heater seems to run OK with the Thermal Reg removed then order a new one.

I have a Sta Rite 400 btu heater. Replaced the manifold with tall the sensors. Replace the circuit board as well. Heater runs and keeps running just fine. After about an hour the temp in the hot tub...

This is a curious situation. Where is all that heat going if not into the water? If the heater is firing normally, the water temp should be rising much faster, unless the bypass is stuck open. However in that situation the high limits should sense that the water is too hot in the exchanger and shut the heater off. Verify that your gas supply is sufficient, because after running for an hour that heat should show up somewhere. It's possible there may be blockage in the gas supply resulting in a low flame.

I have a customer that has some problems with her sta-rite pool heater. Someone turned it up to 120 and left it. The flue discharge has melted and it now sometimes fires, burns a while, goes out and...

All sta-rite pool heaters have had a governor on them that limits the temperature settings to max out at 106 degrees farenheight. Im not sure how they bypassed this but it would require an after market controller to make it happen.

If the flue discharge has melted, im sure the flue high limit sensor has been damaged. Might have enough continuity to make it start, then loses it after burnig a few minutes.

When you find a heater like this. Dont work on it unless the customer gives you approval to work for a few hours just to investigate what it is that happened.

Heater won't turn on display says 104, but you can't adjust temp.

By law heaters are not allowed to heat above 104. If your water is at 104 the heater will not fire. If the touch pad won't let you go down in degrees, you have a bad touch pad.

Could be your heat sensor has gone bad. follow the wires for the sensor from the board to the water manifold. Then simply unscrew the old one and put a new one in. Do this with the system off, good luck.

Water Temprature read 126 on heater and will not fire. Pool temp @ 72 degrees. Heater set for spa @ 101 degrees. SR400NA Sta-Rite Heater

This is a problem with your thermister (heat sensor) You will find this on the left side of the water manifold about half way down. I'm not sure but I think it is a small tube that slides into the manifold and if you follow the wires back to the board it just plugs in. The part is reasonable priced for a heater part and very easy to install. Good luck.

Sta-rite pool heater SR333LP

This heater has a thermal regulator and a high limit that could be the problems. If it were a high limit that was bad, the display would show the error when the heater goes off. In the absence of an error, one would look to the regulator. A bad regulator would cause the water flow to bypass the exchanger and cause a slow heat. The part is easily replaced and runs about $90. It sort of looks like a car thermostat and also has a spring. It is accessed by removing the large black plug near the plumbing inlet/outlet.
