I turn on the camera but all I get is the photo I took need to know how to take a picture

Just press the button.
Just kidding.
With most digital cameras is should be easy. Look if you can find a dail with logo's. When you find one, and there is a little green logo that looks like a photo camera you are half way. Put the dail on the green camera logo. This is where the camera works automatic. you don't need to know anything about focus, aperture shutter time. nothing of that all. 99% of all the pictures you take will be ok. If there is no green loge, try if you can find a menu after you switched on the camera. Try to find a mode and in mode automatic.
Then is the camera is on, and you can see anything that is in front of the camera on the screen or in a view finder, try to push the shutter release button half. (most camera's do have a button on the top right of the housing) With some luck you can see the camera work to get the picture is focus. When the picture is in focus, you can push the shutter release button down complete. keep it there till the camera gives a noise.
That should be enough to make a picture. If you know how to make a picture you can start to concentrate on what you want in the picture. Then you can try to test if you can zoom and frame a picture before you press the button.
Perhaps I could have given more correct answers if I had known what type of camera you have.
Brand and type would be fine. And then what you already knew.

Who knows can I help you to become the next winner of the foto reward of the century?

Camera takes blank pictures on closeup.

Have you set the camera to "Micro" mode? Usually a button or dial setting with what looks like a Tulip on it.

Slow response time

Before a digital camera is ready to take a picture, the electronics inside the camera must get ready to capture the picture and save it to the memory card or the internal camera memory. Press the shutter button half-way (to its first detent) to set the exposure and focus. When the ready light is green, continue pressing the shutter button completely down to take the picture. The picture is taken almost immediately.
