My Danby dishwasher (DW) stopped working. The spray arm stopped spinning completely and very little water was coming out of the arm. When I removed the spray arm (CAUTION: reverse threaded, turn CW to loosen and CCW to tighten) and ran the DW, very little water was spraying out of the pump.

I thought maybe the pump was clogged. So, I followed the recommendations I had seen online about running a few cycles with Vinegar to clear the crud from the pump, but this did not help.

It seemed like the motor was operating, and there were no strange smells to indicate the motor was burned…just no water spraying. So I thought it must be the pump. Before disassembly, I tried to locate a replacement pump. I searched far and wide, both locally and online, and could not locate a replacement pump. So with nothing to lose, I decided to disassemble the DW, take a look and see what I could find. I am glad that I did.

The bottom line is that I disassembled the dishwasher and found that the plastic pump impeller had worked its way off the pump shaft and was not turning. I forced some Teflon plumbers tape over the shaft and forced the impeller back onto the shaft. The impeller has a flat spot to line up with the shaft and I pushed the impeller down on the shaft as far as it would go. I then used a small socket to fit over the shaft and GENTLY tapped the impeller for a final seating. I reassembled the dishwasher and it worked like a charm.

Since I could not find any service manual or instructions online for this DW, I thought I would share my disassembly/reassembly procedure.

Megaupload has been taken down. So I uploaded my instructions to Rapidshare:https://rapidshare.com/files/2513382893/...

Rapidshare removes files if not downloaded within 90 days, so if the link does not work, post a comment, and I will reupload.

Check and make sure that there is nothing blocking the pump inlet underneath the mesh removable filter. It should be making a whirring sound like it's trying to pull water in in a cycle. If it's not making that noise your pump is shot.

From what you have described, sounds like the sprayer arms are possibly loose or being held into place and can't rotate, by dishware.

The new disposer has a plug inside the dishwasher nipple that you must knock out. The dishwasher hose nipple is plugged so water won't leak out if you don't have a dishwasher connected. You must take a flathead screwdrivers and knock out the plug inside the nipple with a hammer or something. Make sure you don't leave the plug inside! The air gap is designed to prevent water from siphoning back into the dishwasher. With the disposal's drain connection blocked, the water exits through the air gap!

Dishwasher has worked great for 2 years, now all the sudden it won't empty the water, How can I trouble shoot it to find the problem?

things work till they don't / so look for a drain pump failure or something in drain line ( very common ) if you have just replaced the disposal you need to remove the plug for the dish inlet .. it's a knock out .. mm

Water won't come in

Cynthia,
There's a flood/safety switch in the dishwasher. It's there to monitor the water level. It does this by rising as the water rises... if it gets too high, it'll shut the water off.
Open the door and remove the lower rack. You'll see it right there in front. Lift and drop it several times to clear any debris. (In order for the dishwasher to get water, it has to be all the way down.) Now try your dishwasher.

Kenmore dishwasher 15762

On the inside of the dishwasher (on the bottom), there should be a little "float" device, which tells the dishwasher when it has put enough water into the tub. Sometimes, this float gets stuck in the "up" position, so the dishwasher never puts any water in, but continues to run anyway as if it did. Try pushing down on the float to unstick it, then start the cycle over and see if it puts any water in.
