HPColorlaserjet 4700dn on network not responding to print jobs

I have an HPColorlaserjet 4700dn on my local network and installed on a server. But the printer does not respond when print jobs are sent from client machines on the same network. The client pops up a message saying "This document has been sent to the printer" but nothing comes out on the printer, I have to switch the printer off and on again for the next job to print. What could be the problem, please help. I have tried re-installing the printer on both server and client machines but this did not help. I am using printer software which came with the printer a year ago.

I am able to access shared files or folders on my server.

The printer has a static ip address and its on the local area network wired to the network via a cat5 cable with an RJ45 connector and is controlled on the server. Hope this answers your second question.

The printer already has a static ip address.

Are you able to access any shared files or folders on your server, where the printer is installed.

    How is the printer connected:
    1) Wired to the server and shared with others
    2) Wired to the router directly.

Please let me know these for further support.

Do you have the right drivers installed for each operating system? If not you can get the right ones from HP.com. It probably can't hurt to update the drivers anyway, maybe they fixed that bug.

If it's not the drivers, it may be the formatter board -- it controls the software interface side of printing.

Kill the job on computer that sent the print job. If the job fails to clear you can stop and start the print spooler

Right click My Computer > Manage > Services.
Right click Print Spooler > Stop then Start. That should clear the job.

Same principle pertains to a network printer, but needs to be done print server.

Our Ricoh MP 171 devices go offline after one

have you tried doing a local connect using a crossover cable to the printer to see if it is the printer or the 2k3 server?
I have seen this issue when terminal services are enabled on the server.
if when you connect locally to the device using x-over it still does it it may need to have the nib firmware updated, however if it doesnt I would run a packet sniffer on the network jack that the device is plugged into and check to make sure that the port is good and transmitting and receiving all packets check the network cable and replace that and if all else fails try the device on a different network port.

Cannot print on shared printer

I had the same problem with HP 1018 printer, when I had two computers connected to a domain and had Windows XP SP3 on them and when I shared the printer on one of them - I could only print from the network if the user belonged to the Local Administrators group on the host/server computer. Once the network user is removed from Administrators - the print jobs are stuck in print queue. I used the "HP LaserJet Host Based Print Driver Package" that is on HP web site for HP laserjet 1018 printer.
Then I tried to use a different driver for that printer and was successful with driver for HP LaserJet 1020. After forcing that printer to use the 1020 drivers, the regular users were able to print to that printer.

Emulex NetQue Pro2 Print Server how do I connect to it

Your DHCP server will keep track of which MAC Addresses have been given what IP addresses. From there, find the IP address of your Print Server. Ping the IP address to confirm IP connectivity between your computer and the print server. You should then be able to upgrade the firmware.
