My gateway profile 5 LCD 15" monitor appears washed out. Seems worse when viewing web pages like this one. I'm looking at this screen on a dell desktop at the same time. On the dell I see all of the screen details. on the gateway profile 5, I can't see the light blue box surrounding this problem description box, I can't see the box surrounding the "Pick one" select a category box. I have to hover my mouse over most screen input fields and start clicking or tabing to find the "invisible" fields. The montior displays things like pictures and movies and win xp screens normally. I've tinkered with all of the controls for brightness and contrast on the front of the LCD. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Washed out monitor when viewing most web pages
Exchange your dell monitor to gateway monitor. If the monitor from dell showed the same problem when you connect it to gateway. you must install video card driver. and if the monitor from gateway showed the same problem when you connect it to dell adjust your contrast to full and the brightness to 50% and adjust the colors to 100%

elvisy71, If different monitor will display the Win-desktop screen with no problem, then Gateway 2275w will need you or qualified electronics technician to possibly repair a defective internal "switch-mode-power-supply" / CCFL inverter supply" !! Check the status of unit warranty first, and check to see if Gateway has a swap-out (exchange+cash) program. If that dosen't work you will be doing a lot of reading about DIY lcd monitor fixes. You will also need to view some DIY video clips at YOUTUBE on "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" that will help you decide what to do about your now BLACK or BLANK n BLACK screen unit. You can find tons of DIY stuff here on fixya in my and other CCFL back-lit lcd monitor tech's fixya profiles. Elvis, remember this! Your 2275w isn't any different than any other brand of ccfl back-lit lcd display in it's basic design and operation and some can be DIY repaired for under $6 in parts cost. Just do some reading of the higher numbered (>16) pages in my fixya profile and my old profile "louie12fix" and follow the web links you find there. If this was of some help to you please come back to fixya and rate this response and tell me and all the other black screen lcd owners what you are planning to do about your monitor. 12fixlouie 42610
donna, james,y , Problem could be far worse than a "sleep-mode" that has caused their "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" back-lit LCD display to go to black or even blank n black failure mode. Problem is so bad that if U. S. government started investigation of LCD monitor failure (e.g. Toyota cars) half of monitor manufacturers would vaporize overnight. But we are only dealing with $100-$200 units here. Not a $14k-$26k vehicle. Do some reading in my fixya profile Pgs.16 and up and in my old "louie12fix" profile and you should find everything and more about what is wrong with lcd monitor and what to do. Good luck with repair. Follow links to other web pages to see pic's of monitor innards and what makes them work and also causes them to fail. All the lcd monitor tech's here on fixya already have good idea of this failure mode. Bye for now. 12fixlouie
tgordon60, If you know how those NEW "CURLIE-Q" energy efficient CFL light bulbs produce WHITE LIGHT, then you will know what makes an LCD display panel produce all the pretty colors and the WHITE BACKGROUND of the FIXYA web page!!! Only difference is that your "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" are thinner and straight, and hung on rear of LCD glass panel and have a DC to AC electronic ballast called an "INVERTER" circuit to produce 600 to 1000vac to light them up. Get to my FIXYA profile and read my responses to other BLACK screen lcd owners to learn about all your options for repair. Follow any of the links to other web pages you find there. Your monitor not any different than ACER, DELL, VIEWSONIC, BENQ, SONY, AOC!!!!! 12fixlouie aka louie12fix
The native resolution of you monitor is 1440x900. If you previously had it set at a lower resolution (say 1280 x 720) the text would appear larger than it does now. You can change the appearance of internet explorer by using the Zoom function (Ctrl +).
Gateway has multiple part numbers for the LCD inverter board. Part numbers V01216400103, V01216400104, and V01216400105
are for the Profile 5 and 5.5 series with a 15" monitor. Part number V01316500104 and maybe others are installed in Profile 5 and 5.5 with 17" and 19" monitors.
Also the LG part number for the 19" monitor provided in Gateway literature is LM190E02-A4. There is no mention of the LM190E05 SL in the product specs I have seen. Gateway does make special purpose runs and does change components without much much notice though.
The definitive source of exact information is Gateway Tech Support. It may cost you a couple of bucks to get answers, but the value added to your system with a 19" vs. 15" screen to say nothing of the viewing comfort should far outweigh the cost of accurate information.
Good luck with your upgrade. Please keep me posted on whatever you try be it successful or not. I too have a Profile 5.5 with 15" and have been considering the larger screen upgrade.
