Question about Washing Machines

4 Answers

We have a Kenmore Elite Oasis Washer. At the beginning of the rinse cycle we get an "F1" error. I hit the "stop" button" then "start" again and it finishes the wash fine. This just started happening. My husband took the machine apart, thought he found the problem but it's still happening. What does "F1" mean?

Perfect. I'll have my husband try this tonight!

  • dchenkus May 14, 2009

    Good Morning Kevin,

My husband did what you suggested - here's what he got:

    88 appeared for 3 seconds

    C0 - 1 second

    C1 - 2 minutes

    C2 - 10 seconds

    C3 - 10 seconds

    C4 - 10 seconds

    C5 - 15 seconds

    C6 - 15 seconds

    C7 - 1 minute

    C8 - 3 seconds

There was no display F-60 through 68. I ran the washer on a regular load afterwards and it still gets jammed up with 17 minutes left in the cycle. I had to hit the stop button and then the start button (two times) and then the cycle finished. Any suggestions?

We're now getting an "F68" with 17 minutes left in the cycle....is this because the control board needs to be replaced?

  • dchenkus May 15, 2009

I can't read the instructions to change the control boad - can you resend them?

If you take your console off there are 2 boards on the back--- ensure all connections to each other are good--- the one to the right is the motor control board and the one to the left is the machine board. its just simple.you will have to connect the wires in the new board as connected in onld board.so mark the wirings in old board properly before removing the old board. you will get the control board at  www.repairclinic.com and or at  www.partsselect.com
thanks.keep updated.

The F1 error code on this washer indicates a Primary Control Board failure.

It is likely that the machine control board will need to be replaced to correct this problem.

The part number for the machine control board is undetermineable because you have not provided me with the exact model # of your washer.

The procedure for replacing the machine control board is provided HERE NOTE: Be sure to unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components. There is a slight possibility that a problem with the pressure switch hose could be causing this problem. A pinched or twisted air hose can cause this fault code. When you open the console, check the air hose connected to the pressure switch on the machine control board. If it is pinched or crimped, I recommend rerouting the hose to resolve this problem. This may fix your problem without replacing the control board. NOTE: You may want to check for this condition before ordering the control board. Most electronic control boards cannot be returned for a refund or credit. If you find no apparent problems with the air hose on the pressure switch, then replacing the machine control board on this washer should correct your problem. There is a risk involved in replacing this part yourself.
As noted above, you could have a problem with the air pressure hose that is not apparent upon your initial inspection. A service technician would normally need to properly and thoroughly diagnose this problem before replacing the control board.

If you reply using the "Continue with this expert" option - I can assist you in ordering the correct part.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Here is one step I found for this error code:
With the washer plugged in and all indicator lights off, select any key except power, start and stop.
Press hold for 3 seconds, release for 3 seconds, press hold for 3 seconds, release for 3 seconds, press hold for 3 seconds. If you did it right all indicators will light and 88 will appear in the display. If there are any faults, they will then display, look for a F-60 through 68. This will confirm the board is corrupt. If no faults are found the machine will go through a five minute automatic test cycle.
Let me know what happens after this.

Thanks
Kevin

It is most likely the main control board. They have been having alot of problems with that machine flashing F1. They did a recall on the main control board on some of those washers. You might want to call the manufacturer to see if your machine is one of them.

The manufacturer has issued a remedy for the F-1. What you do is empty the machine of water and unplug it. Open the control panel and remove the pressure hose. Blow out the hose to remove sediment . Re secure it to the control and retry. No parts needed. F-1 Error infothemobilian_1223.jpg

Kenmore Elite Oasis HE F1 Error

Im sorry to tell you but you have a bad control board. This was a faulty board from the factory. There is a class action lawsuit agianst whirlpool (whirlpool made the oasis). Try calling to get whirlpool to fix it. Maybe try joining the lawsuit. They have remanufactured the part so the new one wont do that again. Its a great machine when it works right.
