A printer with the NIC eliminates the need for complicated network printer configuration because it simplifies the way it is set up within the network. A network printer is not necessary in order to share a printer within a home/office network get more information and help for Network Printer Configuration .

You should go into Start>Printers and Faxes, write down the exact printers that you have (including server name or IP address) and then delete them by right-clicking on each printer and removing it. Once they're gone, add them back by using the Add Printer wizard or by browsing the network to find them and re-connect them. Since you specify that the network printers aren't working, I'm guessing that local (USB, parallel) printers still work properly. This would rule out the local print spooler, and since you didn't mention that everyone else can't print, it's probably not the print server either.

are the network printers attached to a WIndows print server or are the network printers using IP print servers (like a Jetdirect) or something? What model printers are we dealing with? Can you ping the IP addresses of the printers directly from your machine?

Try setting up a new network printer on your machine from scratch. To do this, go to Start, Printers and Faxes, and then find the Add a printer wizard. You'll need to add the new printer using the wizard. Be sure to specify the correct TCP/IP port (this should correspond with the IP of the printer you're trying to use). When prompted for the type of printer or driver, click "Have disk". This will bring up a new window with choices of manufacturers and models of printers. Locate HP in the manufacturer's list, and find the HP Laserjet 4000 in the model list and select OK. When you finish with the wizard, it'll ask you to print a test page, click yes. A test page should print out. Let me know if this works for the HP Laserjet 4200 printer. If you have any trouble or questions, let me know.

Please click on Start, Run, and type in "services.msc". In the window that pops up, look for the "Print Spooler" service Name list and tell me if it's started or not, and what the Startup Type is. If things are normal, the Print Spooler service should be set to Automtaic start, and should be started all the time. If it's not started, right-click and start the service. Then try printing again. Let me know what happens.

Your Dell has an Intel GMA 3000 onboard with up to 256 MB shared memory and isn't listed so probably isn't supported.

CAUSE
Windows XP SP3 introduces a new .dll file that is named Wlanapi.dll. This file is installed in the %WINDIR%\System32 folder. Certain device driver installations for some third-party wireless network adapters also install a Wlanapi.dll file in the %WINDIR%\System32 folder. If such a file is installed in this folder before you install Windows XP SP3, the Wlanapi.dll file that is associated with the network adapter is replaced by the file from the Windows XP SP3 installation.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, check the Web site of the wireless network adapter's manufacturer for the latest device drivers that are available for a Windows XP SP3-based system. Then, download and install the latest device drivers for the wireless network adapter. Source(s): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950720

Hp 3055 and sp3

There are 2 ways you can remove it. The easiest is to go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Make sure Restore my computer to an earlier time radio button is selected and click Next. Bold calendar dates indicate available restore points. Choose the date that you installed SP3 and time if it has more than one, click Next and it will restore it to the way things were prior to the update.
Alternatively, Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and scroll down to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and highlight it then click Remove on the right. I prefer System Restore but that's me.
If you feel this helped you, please help me out and rate the solution accordingly. Thanks for using fixya.com!

Driver will not install due to "unknown error."

I am wondering if you have uninstalled all previous drivers .. I know in some instances the Alps Yahoo Groups suggest you un-install all drivers, so the program looks at it as a brand new install driver.

Try this.
