Question about Kal Equipment Battery Tester - KAL Equipment

Open Question

Kal equip 4260 melted after a routine test. after performing a routine test, the technician hung the tester up with clamps attached to the side. After a couple of minutes the tester began to smoke and melt the internal parts.

    It melted with no attached load? It melted through a steel housing?

Plugged in a tester and the folowing code came out p0135 02 sensor heater circuit bank please advise on location and rectification


first off ECU can never tell you what is bad, it can only tell you what tests failed.
135 test. failed.

a kinda dumb way to stated this Performance.

a better word would be HEATER dead,
or the heater no longer draws current is the better words.

this has 2 causes.
1: heater is dead, buy a new sensor they last 100k miles.
2: the wires to it fell off, stopping current flow, dead.
the latter issues, is a look and see it. it melted or broken wires.

more that 4amps draw is a shorted O2sensor
less that .22amps is open sensor.
why? , well they all go open well before 11 years running.
or last worker, failed to put back the clamps to wires. allowing them to hit the exhaust and melt and short or open.

and this being bad wastes lots of fuel , so there is a return
on investment here.

Instructions1 Clean the positive and negative battery terminals to ensure a good connection with the tester's clamps.
2 Connect the positive and negative clamps to the appropriate battery terminals. The clamps must make firm contact with the battery terminals or the test results will be inaccurate or the tester may not work at all.
3 Turn the tester on and choose the option for "full charging system test." This will test your battery, starter and alternator and provide the most accurate picture of the problem.
4 Follow the directions on the tester's screen. These instructions will include cranking the vehicle after the battery test is performed, holding the engine at a certain RPM range and turning on certain accessories.
5 Read the results displayed on the tester's screen. The tester should scroll through the results, starting with the battery, then the starter and finally the alternator. An alternator test result showing diode ripple problems indicates a bad alternator.

When car gets to operating temp it looses spark


Secondary Spark Test This spark tester looks just like a spark plug. Attach the clip to ground and crank the engine to check for spark. 91052p10.jpg

This spark tester has an adjustable air-gap for measuring spark strength and testing different voltage ignition systems. 91052p11.jpg

This spark tester is the easiest to use. Just place it on a plug wire and the spark voltage is detected; the bulb on the top will flash with each pulse. 91052p10.jpg

NOTE: The best way to perform this procedure is to use a spark tester (available at most automotive parts stores). Three types of spark testers are commonly available:
  • The Neon Bulb type is connected to the spark plug wire and flashes with each ignition pulse.
  • The Air Gap type must be adjusted to the individual spark plug gap specified for the engine.
  • The last type of spark plug tester looks like a spark plug with a grounding clip on the side, but there is no side electrode for the spark to jump.
NOTE: The last two types of testers allow the user to not only detect the presence of spark, but also the intensity of the spark. Orange/yellow is weak, blue is strong.
  1. Disconnect a spark plug wire at the spark plug end.
  2. Connect the plug wire to the spark tester and ground the tester to an appropriate location on the engine or frame.
  3. Crank the engine and check for spark at the tester.
  4. If spark exists at the tester, the ignition system is functioning properly.
  5. If spark does not exist at the spark plug wire, perform a diagnostic test of the ignition system using individual component diagnosis procedures.

Generally, you can check and test alternator with this procedure...

1. Clean the positive and negative battery terminals to ensure a good connection with the tester's clamps.
