Hello heathers,

The term pass through does not necessarily mean passive. What you could have is a switched pass through system. which basically means as long a power is on the signal is not acted upon by the device hence the signal passes through the box when the power is switched off the box stops passing the signal. if you want the signal to from the Sat box to the TV and bypass the DVR you could use a switch to do that (this is just a suggestion).
