I looked but did ot see evidence of any broken gear. There is a black gear at the end of the hot roller area which is intact. Is it possible to send a digital photo to you of the inside?

  • fretz1 May 14, 2009

I checked the gear when I turn it it turns the rubber roller. There is no damage on the paper. Just to clarify: the paper is sitting flat inside the machine with half a printing, ink loose and dusty on the paper. The paper is not jammed, but the jamming light comes on which starts this whole process. Thanks for not giving up on me.

  • fretz1 May 15, 2009

I hope we are talking about the same gear. The one I am looking at has a light in the end of it that lights up very bright when it runs. I watched this gear as it runs and it does turn.

The pink roler spin freely. I live in Saylorsburg, PA. I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you are doing, and have done thus far. You have gone way beyond what is expected of you. Thanks.

Open the machine up, look at in the back area of the machine, just where the paper enters the fuser, ( hot area of the machine). You will find a broken gear, most likely black in color. Most likely you will find it laying in 3 or 4 pieces.
That gear is a common failure in that machine.
What to do, Google a business called "the parts drop". Give Britt a call, he will have that and at a very fair price. ( No I don't work there, but have done business with them for a long time. Trustworthy and honest.), If he doesn't have instructions on how to replace that. Ask me and I will write them out for you. Pretty easy repair. Probably a half hour or so.

Ok. try a couple of things with that gear yet. try, WHEN cool, twist the gear and see if it is cracked. Second see if the gear spins on the roller. The tab can be sheared off and cause the gear to spin but not turn the roller.
If the gear is fine. Then my next question is, is there a damaged area on the paper when it stops? There can be a finger out of place, the output sensor could also be binding , but more often than not, that would not allow you to clear the jam.
We will get to the bottom of this. That is a very good machine you have. Well built.

I would try removing the back cover, run the machine and watch the fuser gears. That larger black on in particular. See if it is turning.
You have lost fuser drive somehow. Tell me what you observe with the back cover removed.

  • Rick Kasper May 16, 2009

Yes that is the one I am talking about.
And the paper is stopping just before entering that fuser area? Or is it stopping well before that?
The print , although not permanent is clear correct ? Not just smudges on the paper?

I have to think this one through a bit more. If the feedrolls were bad the paper would never get there. That also doesn't make sense for a registration problem. If the drum were slipping, the print should be blurred.
When the machine is off and cold. Lift the upper part of the fuser. You can lift up the heat roll assembly slightly. See if you can reach in and spin the pink soft rubber roller. See if maybe the bearings are bound up. MAKE SURE THE MACHINE HAS BEEN OFF at least an hour.
This has to be a fuser issue. Where do you live? I would even be willing to drive to look at the machine if it's within reason.

Printer indicates paper jam every few pages, but there is no paper anywhere in the paper path. If I open the top cover and close it, it will print a few more pages, then indicate another paper jam

Paper jams can be tricky to solve. The paper is usually stuck inside the printer mechanism so even if there is no visible paper jam, you will still get the paper jam error. Try this:

1. Turn off your printer
2. Open all trays and remove any paper stuck there
3. Locate the button to open the printer, open it and remove any paper stuck there also.
4. Repeate the above step for all buttons that you can find to access the inside of the printer
5. Close all doors and put back all trays
6. Turn on your printer

Xc 1040 xerox Red light is flashing and the copier will not

On a XC 1040 machine either there is a jam on the fuser, the fuser switch fell out of place, or the sensor swich arm fell off the registration sensor.
Since we cannot see the machine we might understand what is taking place.
If the machine is turned off and back on and there is no red light, then the machine must be able to attempt to make a copy. If a copy does not come out, then there is problely some worn feed rolls.
If when the machine is turned on and there is a red light then th There can be some bad paper feed cluthes as well. There might be a paper stuck at either fuser assemly or paper feed roller areas.
Provide more description about the visuals on the machine.
Good luck.

I have a paper jamming in paper pick-up area.It dosen't make it past white plastic rlrs. Manual feed by-pass works fine .XC-830

The paper pick up rollers have lost their grip and need replaced, but I wouldn't put that much expense into fixing it. That xerox is a sharp in disguise, although supplies are not interchangeable the parts are. Common repairs for that machine is the gear on the fixing roller will break, to pick up tires dry rot and the heat lamp will blow. For the expense to fix it can almost buy a new one with more features and cost less to operate. The xerox supplies are very expensive.
Just use the by pass until something else goes wrong.
Good luck

Xc 830 problems

why not take the developer and drum units out of the skew copy one and put them in the other? At least that will tell you if dev/drum/toner is the problem.......
Skew copies on the other...look for torn corners of paper tight in the end of feed chutes etc, sometimes clearing a jam will leave a bit in there enough to slow down that side of the feed.If you can see any rollers make sure they are closed and parallel to each other and clean...
