When you first switch on the Laptop before it gets to the loading windows screen, just after the bios options try pressing ALT and F10... If that doesnt work have a look if there is an option in the Bios to turn on the Recovery option, after setting that to on, try pressing ALT and F10 again...

You should be able to load the recovery partition and that should have an option to restore the PC, failing all that try a Boot CD which has some Boot Managers on there, using the boot manager, try booting directly to the recovery partition :)

Most Acers have a hidden recovery partition built in, the CD is used if the Partition has been modified or if you have changed the drive, etc then you wont have that partition, if you have just installed windows on the normal Vista partition, then that hidden recovery partition should still be there, you just need to boot to it :)

There is no way to roll back from Vista to XP. If you still have an XP CD Key you can re-install using a windows disk of the same type using your code. All the drivers should be downloaded first to a CD from the manufacturers web site. Plus any data you would like to keep.

When laptops are sold, they put the operating system on C: drive, and a restore system on partition D:. If you look on "My Computer" and there is only C:, then the D: must have been reformatted when the Vista upgrade was installed.
If you still have a D: partition, then you can do a complete restore from that partition to restore your computer back to it's original state. If not, then you have no choice but to buy a new disk.

Incidentally, if you have Vista Home Basic, I understand why you want to go back. But if you upgrade your computer to two gigs of ram, Vista Home Premium makes a very good system.

Let us know how it works for you.

Acer Aspire 3690 laptop network problem

There are multiple LAN drivers available for that model from Acer. Make sure you download all of them for the specific OS and try each one. I note that the only operating systems they have drivers for are Windows XP 32bit, XP MCE 32bit and Vista 32bit. Make sure to also download and install the chipset driver.

Acer aspire 3690 bios reset

Underneath the ram (remove ram) is a jumper marked J3
short this out for a couple of seconds.

This will reset bios right back.

Boot and go straight to bios (F2) and set your options as needed there.

Eg date, time, drives, and any other options the bios needs to be able to boot the machine. When you have done make sure you SAVE then exit which will re-boot.

If you didnt mess any bios settings you should be back in business

My Aspire 3690-2710 is running super slow! And I want to know how to mod my processor.

The simple answer is: You can't! The processor is an integral part of the MB and cannot be replaced or upgraded. Instead, look to see WHY you are running slow. How much memory do you have? With XP, you need 1GB, with Vista, you need 2GB. With any less, your machine will bog down.

Lost wireless router

I found these 3 drivers on Acer's Website. I have labeled each of them with the Manufacture of the wireless card they are intended for. If you know who the manufacturer of you card is then try that download first, if not try each one until you get the right one (I would try the intel first, then the broadcom, and finally the atheros.)
