Question about Coldtech 40 cu. ft. / 1133 liter Commercial Freezer J4SFF-40B

1 Answer

Unit shutting down and temp riseing to 100 degree

Unit runs ok until defrost is on, when it comes out of defrost the unit wants to start but can't. Internal o.L tripps and does this several times.
Run amps are 9.2 The start amps at this point are 27.6amp on a 20 amp breaker. The start cap mf are 188 to 277. and reads 302 mf.
This is 115v unit and total amp on lable say 12.9 amps.
LRA on lable to comp. is 74.0.
I have lowered the charge a bit to keep head pressure down in hopes to keep unit running. This has been an on going problem since this unit was new. Any solution to solve this. Thanks for the help. Don

If the start relay and cap are ok then I'd say it's time for a new compressor. Have you tried running the compressor directly with a direct start circuit? cheers

We have Frigidaire Upright Freezer. After 6-7 days its stops cooling as its condenser gets ice around it whereas the fan is working good. We clean the ice and it again starts working/cooling.

There are a few possibilities. Freeze-ups are a result of the unit either not having sufficient airflow or the compressor running too long and too often. As you note the fan is good, chances are airflow is not the issue. There are a few quick items that you can check on:

1. Check door seals. Leaks will cause the interior to lose cooling faster and result in compressor overloading.
2. Do not overload the freezer. Too much inside the freezer will cause loss of airflow INSIDE the unit and can cause issues.
3. Avoid putting too much unfrozen material into the freezer at once. It takes a lot of work to remove all the heat from a large amount of material.
4. Avoid multiple opening and closing of the door. Upright freezers are inefficient as they lose all their cold air as soon as you open the door. Chest freezers do better if you must go into the unit often.

Lastly, undercharged refrigerant system can cause the same issue. If you don't have any of the other problems noted, have a serviceman check the refrigerant and fill the system as needed.

Tip

Freezer not working, things to check

The unit needs two fans running and good airflow, one fan outside cools the condensor coil and the other inside the unit blowing across the evaporator coil, warming it. The compressor must start up. The defrost timer stops everything and switches on a heating element to defrost the evaporator for several minutes. Please verify these conditions. The condensor coil may get clogged with dirt and lint, the evaporator may get clogged with ice build up, or the fan may quit working due to bad bearings, need for lubrication, or burn out. The defrost timer has an internal motor and contacts which may quit working, some have a way to manualy turn it to switch its mode in case it quits working.

I believe it is the=>WR55X11084 Main Control Board
There is not much there other than the overload and start relay that if they malfunction it will be a possible to overload the electronic components on the WR55X11084 Main Control Board so I would begin by replacing the main board first. If you notice problems with the compressor starting then replace the start components, Thanks John Tripp John Tripp Appliance 911

Does not get cold enough

If refrigerant charge is ok, make sure that the evaporator coil is not covered with ice. The latter serves as an insulator and will keep unit from achieving designed low temps. Remove ice by defrosting unit manually and then restarting unit. If ice continues to build up at alarming rate check for the tightness of door gaskets. If lots of moisture gets into unit, it will collect and freeze on coil. Also check to see that the defrost timer is not going on excessively. Those defrost cycles can raise internal temps by as much as 25 degrees; if the cycles come on prematurely and/or very often internal temps will be high.

Unit will not come out of defrost

If the display is showing "DEF" or "REC", and the compressor and evap fan is running, the unit is not in defrost. It is just not making temp. Unit has to be withing 15 degrees of the "set point" before it will start displaying numbers. Check for the obvious, worn gasket, door not closing on it's own, dirty condenser filter or condenser. Start there and let me know.

You need to replace the temperature control, (unless you find a bad wire connection to the temp control first). You can find a control that is close enough at any appliance parts store, bring the old one in for a match up. Make sure it is NOT a 39 degree constant cut in type and you will want a differential of at least 6 or 8 degrees minimum so that it wont "short cycle" which means it would run for a few minutes, shut off for a few then run again before the high side pressure comes down.

I have a turbo air upright freezer. having trouble understand ertain sensors and how this unit functions. on the schematic there is a f sensor and d sensor and bi metal switch. Customer called that this...

without a model number, I can only tell you the general function of most freezers. Theory is that the bi-metal is probably a defrost heater safety to prevent overheating. A sensor of some type will prevent the evaporator fan from coming on until the evaporator temp hits a preset temperature. Some freezers are setup to terminate on either time or temperature, whichever occurs first.
Hope this helps some. Need model number for further help.

My freezer N308 F&P makes a little noise but motor not going. It is slowly starting to defrost and water coming out...I turned it off and on but same.

The compressor could be gone, the niose you hear will be the internal fan unit running , this circulates the cold air arount the inside of the unit. If this unit has a timer, it will be a located in the compressor housing well in the lower rear of the , it will be separate from the compressor and will have 5 wires plugged into it, on that unit, locate a small round knob and turn it clockwise, it should start, if it does, replace the timer, if not, check the thermostat. This may need a tech to do safely as you are working with a live curcuit.
Hope that helps but without being there it quite hard to explain.

Dont forget to vote and goodluck, need more help contact me wgheaven@yahoo.com.au and if you are in Perth Australia, I can have a look at it.

There is definately a ground fault in this unit. Also according to the service manual this is an "Electronic Defrost Control" similar to an "
Adaptive Defrost Control" which determins the defrost initiation by the amount of run time. You cannot set this yourself.
