I bought a Coby mpc789 and the video conversion software didn't come with it and there's no download at the coby site, also i can't get a response from coby support. I tried 3 different video to avi converter programs but every time I try to play it on the Coby player it always says ''file not supported''.

I find that the converter that comes with the player works well with files in the .mov format.Get a dvd ripper that can support Quicktime .mov file.Daniusoft DvD ripper supports .mov output conversion. If you cant find one that does that maybe you can ripp the DVD then convert the output file to .mov then after that use the converter that came with the player to convert to the .mtv format that the player uses.If you accidentally deleted it you can get another download from the Coby USA website..Here is the link to the page..
You first have to convert the video files to MTV format which is the only format the device recognizes. Below is a link for a setup guide which will walk you through step by step, The first link is the actual conversion software.
Use the video conversion software utility included on the Installation CD to create video files that
are suitable for playback on the MP-C7052.
Your player supports AMV files with the following specifications:
160 x 128 resolution at 15 frames per second (fps)
The video conversion software will not recognize ALL types of video files, so you will have to find a free converter that will convert files of one type to AVI or another recognized video type.
Look at the help files in the video converter software for far more detail than we could ever hope to provide here.
In reading my manual it states that the only supported video format is AVI (Xvid) There is a video conversion program on the drivers CD, but you can also download a newer version from CobyUSA.COM for free. I haven't tried it, but the firmware upgrade I did download from that site worked perfectly and loaded exactly as the manual described. Once This program is installed on your Windows machine and you import video files to it and then load them to your unit. I know this seems complicated, and it may not be necessary if your files are already AVI.
It isn't too much different from converting Wave files to MP3, though there is a learning curve. Take time and don't try to do everything at once. Download the program one day, read the manual the next, try converting a file the next. It just takes patience.
The Coby displays pictures just fine, both BMP and JPEG. Movies are always a little more complicated.
