Cycles through power up, but then shuts off. My wife previously stepped on this computer and cracked the screen, which still operated. I hooked it up to my desktop monitor and used it that way for some time. I recently purchased a parts computer of thesame type which had a good screen. I changed out the screen, and when I powered it up to check it, the computer cycled through and windows began to start up, but it suddenly shut off. I started it again and it did basically the same thing (it seemed to not shut off at the exact moment while cycling through windows as the time before). I started it again, and it kept shutting of. The place where it shut off did not seem to be exact, but the shut off, did get quicker. At times it would not even get to the windows logo, but was merely at the bios option. I tried using the battery from the other computer (which was reported bad though) and it kept turning off. I had the computer plugged in every time too. The original battery was not holding charge, but the computer was working before, as long as I had it plugged up. I would appriciate any help or ideas as to what may be the cause of this mystery. Thank you and God bless. ><>

To partially clear computer RAM memory, close some programs that are currently running. In Windows, right-click on any program in the task bar and choose the "Close" option. That will free up the memory that was used by the program. Even if you close every program running on the task bar, a big chunk of memory is taken up by the operating system. The RAM used by the operating system cannot be cleared without shutting down the system.

  • 2 To clear computer RAM memory totally, you have to shut down the system. In Windows, click on the Start Menu and click the "Shut Down" option. Unix and Linux have similar options. When this process is complete, all RAM will be cleared.

If you are somewhat impatient, turn off the computer by pressing the power button on the computer. This is slightly quicker than the previous step.

  • 4
If you are very impatient, unplug the power cord of the computer. If it is a laptop, disconnect the battery as well. The computer's RAM memory will be cleared immediately upon the power source being disconnected. This method of shutting down the computer usually causes corruption or some other problem when the operating system is booted up again.

HP had blue screen and said it would shut down. Problem is that it does turn off, so that it can be re-booted. Have tried to shut off PC, but continues to come on and not start.

Hold the power button in for 10 to 15 seconds for hard shut down if that doesn't work unplug power for about 5 minutes then plug power back in and see what happens

My ASUS E5871 won't boot up. When turned on, about 1/3 of the screen is white, the rest black. A bit later all or sometimes part of the screen will be white with tiny vertical colored lines. It'll play...

Sounds like you have a cracked LCD screen. Cracked lcds can result in white/black/lines, etc. To be sure, hook up an external monitor and see if that shows a proper image.

Windows cannot find regsvr.exe at start up

Probably the easiest way to resolve this issue is by following the steps outlined below.

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Turn the computer on and immediately press F8 repeatedly until you get the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.
    3. use the down arrow to select "Safe Mode" and press enter.
    4. Window is should start with a "Help" window.
    5. In the help window there is an underlined "What is System Restore?"
Click on that and "Click to open System Restore"
    6. click on that and a new window comes up recommending restoring to a previous state.
    7. Click ok and the operating system should restore your computer successfully and reboot into normal mode.

Wireless button (and wireless in general) does not work

ok. unplug your computer and remove the battery. leave it that way for two full minutes. then put the battery back in and plug the computer back in. These steps reset your computer.

now open it up and crack it up using your usual method. It should be fine. if not get back and I will take you through the steps of making it recognize your wireless modem again. hopefully this will not be necessary.

Trying to install router for wireless

If that's hooked to comcast you can only have one computer hooked up to it, and no modems as they block mac address. If you are a Comcast customer there is a workaround. Turn on your wife's wireless if she hasit, if not get her a wireless card USB is easiest. Turn on sharing on that wireless card and you will be able to access the internet through your wifes computer, and not run afoul of your Comcast agreement. Or request an upgrade to a wireless router from Comcast but your rent goes from $3.00 per month to $10.00!
