Taking the battery out is one thing. However, I am not comfortable taking out the hard drive and RAM on a laptop. Is there no other solutions on the software side of things?

Hi Kim,

you may want to perform a system restore as it will revert your laptop settings to its previous working state ( before initial installation ).

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx

should there be a chance that you will open your laptop, do not remove the components yet, try to remove the BIOS / CMOS battery (flat round batt) for at least 30 min, put it back and reboot the laptop.

you may refer to Laptoprepair101.com for more information.

hope this helps.

regards,

voodoo

Ok./as when ever this happens the error shows up on the laptop. to resolve this error you will have to turn off the laptop and remove the battery from laptop for couple of hours.also remove the hard disk.the memory (ram ),and the CMOS  battery from the laptop.the CMOS  battery is located under the hard disk.so you will have to remove the hard disk from the laptop as you remove the hard disk you will see.a stell colour ,3volt ,round battery .remove that with the help of paper clip. wait for 2 hours and then reinsert everything and check out.it will solve your problem. just take care when ever you insert the parts after 2 hours .please insert and fit all the parts in proper way as it were before when you removed them from laptop.if you fit the part in wrong way it will not get started.also all the parts to be removed are at the back side of the laptop.to remove the back side you will require a proper screw driver.that will help you. Please do rate the solution. Thank you for using fixya.keep updated. thanks

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

I can't close my page with the red bottom on the top left hand side today to open another page. Would you please help me. Thank you.

Try a reboot, that should correct that problem.
If you are unable to shut it down from the menu bar, press and hold the power button until it turns off. When it reboots, it will ask if you want to open all the programs you were running when you shut it down. I usually do not open them, because never sure which one caused the problem.

How to reboot compaq mini

Reboot is another
name for restart, so
just click into the Start
menu then shut down
then choose restart. If
you are unable to do
that since if the laptop
is frozen push and hold
the power button in for
at least 10 seconds or
until the computer
turns off, then push the
power button again to
turn it back on. This
should only be done if
you are unable to do
anything else.
Ok

My comouter first blanked out and opened and closed windows/programs and then went back to normal. It then did it again for quite a while until I finally did a hard shutdown. When I turned it on it...

Errors on the hard drive or corrupt files/programmes are the usual cause of that sort of erratic behaviour.
When you get it back start it up and as soon as you get into Windows, run CHKDSK/F straight away, the computer then will shut down, or you must shut it down. As you reboot it, it will be in DOS mode and CHKDSK/F will run and try and fix the errors.
If that is not succesful, start the laptop up with your Windows System Disk and choose repair system.
Hopefully that will solve your problem. If not, you may need to format your drive and start again with a new system.

Dell 1545, i turn it on and it sounds like it starts but it dosnt, then after 4 mins it beeps, 4 times like beep beep beep beep lol! it loaded up once but crashed when i tried to restart it? whats the...

4 short beeps means the system timer on the motherboard is bad. You can try reseating the power connectors on the MB and resetting the CMOS memory but it's probably the motherboard. DELL'S QUALITY HAS REALLY SLIPPED!

Unable to veiw image through lens

I have the same problem with my flawless-up-until-today S2-IS. I read in another link the problem is related to moisture causing the iris to stick, requiring a forced reboot. This worked for me, but after putting away the camera for a few days the prblem returned and needed the trick again.

When you turn on the camera and are able to see menus but the image displays are dark, try the following:
1. Place the program selector to "Tv" setting
2. Press the self-timer selector (twice) until you see the timer icon on the screen
3. Press the shutter button to take a photo; the self-timer begins to beep a countdown
4. Open the battery cover BEFORE the timer runs out.
5. After a second, close the battery cover and the camera will power cycle automoatically.
6. The displays should return to normal.
You may have to repeat this a few times to get it to work. Good luck.

When reinstalling XP, install in a directory other than WINDOWS. Your My Documents will be safe, unless you have already overwritten it. Other data should be safe.DO NOT FORMAT THE DISK as the installation suggests.
