If it went dead several seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

You may find that this part is uneconomical to replace.

Here is a link you or someone you know can use to test it, but please read the safety info:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/xformer.html

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Fridigaire microwave does not turn on

Your aren't giving me much to work with but I have fixed a bizillion microwaves and in most cases they blow the fuse (probably 18 amps) and it is because the HV diode shorted. So both would need to be replaced. Not a big expense. I would think about $50 from a reputable company. There are some exceptions of course. If the unit is very old it could have a bad magnetron in which case it is not worth repairing. The unit may only need a fuse. Everytime you hit go the microwave makes a very hard demand on power and over time the fuses can blow. Let's hope for the best a new fuse. Let me know how this works out.

Microwave doesnt heat and emits a strange electrical smell

As you know this is not a good sign. It could be several things.
1. Capacitor
2. Doide,
3. Control panel
4. Magnetron
5. A grounded power wire.
6. Tthe RF stirrer motor has failed
I have to assume that you do not have any grounded power wires as the fuse would blow. Most likely you have a bad capacitor or diode. I would at least have the unit serviced and pay a diagnostic fee to see if you want the unit repaired or to replace it depending on what has failed. The Magnetron replacement cost and labor is more than 50% of the cost of a new unit.

Microwave is plugged in, but getting no power, circuit ok, cannot find a fuse on the microwave.

Normally if no power is indicated, it is due to a blown fuse but if fuse has blown be careful, it because there is something wrong. Mostly its due to a problem in the power circuit. Can either be the magnatron or the diode capacitor combination.Normally the capacitor goes faulty causing the HV diode to blow. Replace the two components(diode and cap.). If it happens again replace the magnatron. Microwave truely dangerous and needs proffesional att. email me if you want to go ahead yourself

Fuse keeps blowing. Why?

The HV diode in the power supply for the magnetron is probably shorted.

The magentron or high voltage capacitor is drawing too much current as it gets hotter. Substitute the cap first , it is cheaper solution.

Fuse keeps blowing.

It appears like the high voltage capacitor is shorted or the diode connected to the capacitor. You might want to check the monitoring switch as well if the capacitor and diode are good.

Unit shuts off (JVM1340WW002) and blows fuses

Generally speaking, if the high voltage capacitor is shorted, the fuse will blow as soon as you hit the START pad. When the HV cap fails, I've never seen one do anything but short. If it's a few seconds or so into cooking, it's usually the high-voltage transformer. There may or may not be a burning smell. The cooling fan often will dissipate the smell. What can happen to the transformer is an expansion of the windings to the point where a couple of hot spots eventually make bare spots which touch, then the short causes the fuse to blow. When it cools, they aren't shorting anymore. It's possible it's the mag or something else, but not too likely. You can (carefully!) disconnect the primary leads from the HV transformer then run the oven, making sure the wires are free and clear. If the fuse blows, the problem is in the low-voltage side. If it doesn't the trouble is in the HV side. If you broke a seal (tamper tag) or left any other evidence that you were inside the microwave, your warranty will be voided. Some parts may be covered, but the labor warranty usually expires sooner. Be careful.

Microwave not works

WARNING: Microwave ovens are the most dangerous consumer appliance to service due to up to 5,000 V at high current inside. Even with the power off, there is a HV capacitor that can produce a lethal kick. This capacitor must be discharged before touching anything in the microwave generator circuitry. DON'T remove the cover yourself unless you fully undertand the SAFETY issues involved in working inside a microwave oven. A microwave oven is possibly THE MOST DANGEROUS common consumer product to service. About the only "easy" fix would be a blown fuse, if it keeps blowing, don't go any further unless you know what you are doing. Your likely options are a blown high voltage cap, diode, or the magnetron. Good luck(but luck has nothing to do with it ;] )
