Question about LG 50PX4DR 50 in. Plasma TV

Vizio P42hd approx. 1" red line on screen, picture shifted

I have a Vizio P42hd (Type # SP42A). Recently a 1" thick vertical red line has shown up on the right side of the picture. I unplugged the TV and the Red line for a day, but reappeared. Then one day, I turned on the TV and the left side of the screen had stretched to cover the whole screen (The left side of the screen had increased in size to cover the whole screen and you could not see what was happening on the right side of the screen). I've read some information about a one of the boards being upgraded because of some problems. Can anyone tell me if this sound like a board related issue? If not, any suggestions.
Thanks, Bob

I replaced the control board with the updated ....38C board. After reassembling, the screen is now black. When I turn the power on the TV there's a pop in the back of the TV. The TV tries to start up, but then there's a second pop and the screen turns dark. If you turn the lights off in the room, the screen has some light, but know picture. The green power light stays on the whole time as well as the sound. I've read in some of the forums that this may be related to the power supply. One other forum mentioned that the board ribbons may not have been seated properly on the new board. Any suggestion or recommendations.

    Thanks,
    Bob

I have a vizio p42hd TV. It has thin red vertical lines evenly spaced about 3/4" apart throughout the viewing area.

Hi,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

HOPE THIS WILL HELP TO FIX IT.....

Our Vizeo P42 purchased in July 2005 has had a red vertical bar on the left side for about two months. About a week ago it developed vertical lines across the left half of the screen with no picture...

sadly no.
either your panel has been hit and damaged or the panel itself is failing.
without some sort of warranty coverage, your repair cost would exceed the price of replacement.

Vizio P42HD TVThe LH side of the screen is black - no picture with vertical fixed lines

This is the best solution for your problem as a 40 year experience with wires etc. Go to the source of your cable signal connector . Open it and clean the terminals with emery paper , sand the end of the cable shiny clean from corrosion , get a new barrel connectors with gold terminals if possible lengthen the ends of the cable , insert and tighten good, use thick rg-16 or rg 40 cable with good insulation ends crimped professionally with a crimpier or buy ready made , not from dollar store. Get a gold plated professional splitter if you need one or two , it will cost about 15 or more each . Make the cable runs as short as possible, using the thick good cables. If needed get a signal magnifier. From radio shack or the source etc. Connect them good and tight . Ground the splitters . Problem solved , you will get crystal clear channel 2 to 7 including 3 and 4 . Isolate the TV cable from other cables and power wires. Vitally

Screen is half picture and half black with vertical colored lines

I had the same issue. I could get the tv to work intermittantly by pressing on the boards while playing. This points to bad solder joint, so I resoldered every molex plug connector, and it nows works like a charm.

VIZIO P42hd PS42a plasma Picture has two vertical lines (one red/orange, one blue) going down the right-hand side of the screen. Lines are clearly visible

The panel is almost certainly bad. The only fix for this is to replace the whole panel which would cost more than the whole TV.

Vertical Red Line

I had a bright red 1" wide vertical line on the right side of my Vizio P42HDE as well as an equivalent Green line on the left. Sometimes a Blue line would appear adjacent to the red line. Had this TV sinc Oct. 2005. Based on internet research, I opted to purchase an LG 6871QCH060Q board (upgrade to the 6871QCH038A and the 6871QCH038C). Picked the board up on Ebay for $100 + $10 shipping from ShopJimmy parts.

From start to finish, this took about 2 hours to repair. Tons of screws to remove. Took me a while to figure out that the video connection unit in the back is completely modular and needs to be removed before attempting to remove the back cover. Once the cover was removed, I was surprised that I could not see where the replacement board was located. Turns out, you have to go one level deeper and remove the audio board and digital board followed by metal bracket/cover. Once removing the metal cover, the bad 6871QCH038A board was visible. A couple of zip ties will need to be cut as well as several cable connections to get to the 6871QCH038A board. Replaced the board with the 6871QCH060Q upgrade. Make sure to keep the sticky foam rubber isolation pieces and adhere them to the new board. It did take some time to figure out how to disconnect and reconnect all the various types of cable connections. Just take your time. The power cable connector for the 6871QCH060Q board is in a different location, thus I had to reroute the cable. Reassembled and only had 2 unused screws left!

TV workd great. Lines are gone. Have a little burn-in going on where the red line appeared, but still better than forking over $800 for a new 42" LCD 1080P TV. Hope to get a couple of more years out of this Vizio.

One line I found has a general example of LG/Vizio repair manual. Not exact, but close enough...http://www.scribd.com/doc/7580885/LG-TV-Plasma-Training-Manual
