Re: CD player not powering up

You don't mention what model of Kenwood, but this is a common problem with all rotating front displays.
The replacement of these ribbon cables can be awkward, some have a tension system and the removal of the 'mask' front cover has to be heated with a hair dryer to release the double sided tape.
Only a Kenwood dealer could get the cable as they are not an accessory

The display flashes "closed" and I can't open the cd drawer when pressing the open/close button. Is there a reset please ?

Try removing power from the unit, let it set two minutes without power and power it up again. See if the problem continues.
Make sure the cd drawer is complete closed and flush with the front panel. If not, something could be stuck inside.
Turn off power and remove cord from wall for next step:
There is a small hole generally on the flat face of the cd drawer through which a bent straight paper clip can be pushed gently until you hit a mechanical stop. Pushing slightly harder at this point should cause the cd drawer to move open mechanically. Gently pull the cd drawer open until you can remove any CD still inside.
Gently push the drawer closed again and restore power to the unit and see if the problem returns.
Would be nice to have manufacturer and model number of the CD player.

Tray's sticking on vocopro 8000 pro

Sounds like belts are slipping under tray. They can be cleaned or replaced or new ones of course.

Hi, My young daughter held the tray on my new cd5001 player as it was opening. The tray now opens and closes continually while the unit is turned on. It will not play discs and the words open & close...

while your daughter was "holding" the tray did you hear any "popping" type noise?
This is a typical sympton when the gears have skipped a few teeth!
Your best bet(IF your a "handy" person) would be to take the unit apart to get to the CD drive, and CAREFULLY push/pull on the tray to manually "open/close" it, and watch the tray in correlation to the "eye" mechanism, to see if it is aligning with the "hole" in the tray correctly!
Good luck!

I called panasonic and they told me to do a hard reset on the system it seems to have worked on mine. Hold the power button continually while you unplug and replug the unit.

Any Sony CD/DVD has "Autoplay" in it's setup menu.(home units not portables) From the time it's powered up until it actually plays is about 30 seconds on average. These players are $50 and up. Hope this helps

To open the drawer, unplug the unit while the power is on (so that the drawer doesn't try to open on its own). Keeping the unit flat on a table, look underneath and find the small hole where you can turn the loading gear. Rotate it until the unit opens, using a standard flat screwdriver. The loading gear is a white plastic part with a slot in it. You should be able to see it rotate if you move the drawer by hand.

After manually removing the disc, turn the gear with your screwdriver until the drawer is all the way in, The gear should be able to be turned for three or four more turns when the drawer stops loading. If it doesn't, turn it a bit further unit it "pops" past one more gear notch. It should then turn freely for a few more turns, at this point you should stop. Do not force it once it stops the second time. This is the "Disc Loaded" position.

Power the unit back up and see if it loads a disc and plays correctly.

Need help

'Protected' usually appears on amps or combined cd/amp units when the main processor detects a short circuit in the speaker connections and the unit goes into 'protect' mode to stop further damage.Check the speaker connections. You may then need to reset the unit by holding the power switch in for a few seconds while powering on the mains cord for example. Sony A/V amps are notorious for this issue.

HHB 850 CD Burner - lockup problem

I did find out how to do the manual eject, for a stuck cd. Open up the machine, looking at the front/top, on the lower left side of the cd transport there is a white plastic gear that can be turned with your finger, ejecting the cd.
