Question about Mitsubishi WS-55315 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

White permanent lines on Mits 55

These have probably occurred from 4X3 format pillar box which I had in black instead of gray.  Is there anything I can do get rid of them.  I reset factory convergence and adjusted color settings but no help.  They are most prominent when the picture is brighter.  Please help.  Thanks

Re: white permanent lines on Mits 55

If you have had the pillar box on for a long time and now you are viewing wide screen format the crt's have had more or the phosphorus worn on the 4x3 portion of the crt's witch will give you a different shade where the pillars were the only cure is to replace the crt's

You probably have a V26 chassis. The only fix to this problem now that parts are no longer available from MITS is to call their Consumer relations dept. at 800-332-2119. If you have a qualified tech come out and estimate the job, Mits will offer you an attractive discount on a new model. To repair your problem would be around $750

Mitsubishi ws-65411 appears to be in letterbox at all times seems screen is shrinking only time you see full screen is in zoom format tv is 2002 model I think thanks in advance joe

This model is HD but requires a box and is only 4x3 in HD. That means you will see selected HD channels in letterbox and many others may be formatted that way by the box you are using.

Their later sets were also HD but had 4x3 AND 16x9 which is full screen in HD provided the box is sending it that way.

I do not think anything is wrong with your set--it is just the way it was intended to work.

Mitsubishi WS-65313 Screen burn-in

IF you have the area on either side of the picture used in the 4x3 burned---it is now burnt into the phosphor of all three picture tubes this set uses.

The real problem here is most of these sets the default setting for contrast or "picture" (same thing) is 100% and this is what burns fixed images into the tubes.

Pretty stupid, but that is how they are made--the black background in later models was replaced with a light gray one to try to prevent this.

If you do not have a warranty live with it--the cost of the three tubes would be about 900 dollars plus labor to replace them and adjust the set.

It takes less than 100 hours of use with the 4x3 up to cause this kind of problem, just like putting a fixed image on any projection set with full contrast and brightness set full--the damage is permanent.

I have replaced tubes in sets like this and when you get the tube out you can see the BURN in the phosphor.

I am sorry to give you bad news but based on your description this is what you have.

Have a gray bar on the side of screen do not know how to get rid of them

If you have a gray band left and right on the screen--in the background----It is a burn on ALL THREE OF THE PICTURE TUBES THIS SET USES.

What happens here is if Contrast (picture) is set all the way up and the set used in the 4X3 mode---it will burn a permanent mark into all three tubes.

If this is the case you may just want to live with it as all three tubes would have to be replaced--over 800 dollars parts and labor depending on where purchased.

I saw a lot of these with this problem when they were fairly new---the DEFAULT setting on these sets is contrast all the way up and this is what burns the image of the 4X3 into the tubes.

Let me know if you have questions. I know this is not good news, but based on your description I think it is what has happened.

Mitsubishi WS55513 480i Signal no Color

That may be a TV problem but can also be a Cable box problem.Do you have any other 480i signals hooked to the TV?
Also most Comcast HD boxes can be set to output SD signals at 480p which may solve the problem. Usually get to the setting by turning the cable box off and pressing menu on the box, not remote.
It should display a different menu on the tv screen, arrow down to 4X3 overide then arrow right and try 480p.

Vertical lines in the picture on light background only

It sounds like you have Image burn in on your crt's. This happens when you watch programs in 4X3 mode. (The sides are blacked or grayed out and the picture is centered in the screen). The only way to fix this is to replace the crt's. I wish I had better news. Let me know if I can be of further assistance

Format stuck on Mitsubishi WS-55511 Rear Projection TB

Normallly, if the format button on the remote does not achieve the desired affect, then, a cable box or a satelite box is where the change needs to be made. For example: A Motorola Cable box needs to be set up to go to a wide screen when an analog signal is detected. It's difficult to determine the repair without knowing the hook up of the peripherals. Hope this helps.
