Question about Brother MFC 6800 All-In-One Laser Printer

Replaced both toner and drum- prints too light

MFC print is very light.

Replaced both drum and toner with the Brother branded items ( not generic)....  Took both out and reinstalled. Same outcome.  ($190 for the drum and $32 for the toner at Office Depot.)  Adjusted contrast with no improvement...it just added some grey blur to the print job. Any suggestions?

The pages printed have a ghost image on the printer almost every 4 inches on the right half of the paper -- changed toner, drum and cleaned the glass window

I have a MFC8440 and have the exact same problem as yours. Genuine Brother drum + toner. "Ecology" is set at "no" for "toner saver". I called Brother and they walked me through a series of steps cleaning and checking the settings (mainly, check the "ecology", check "print density", verify toner is not low, pull out toner+ drum and clean the glass panel, slide the corona wire back & forth a couple of times), but prints still very light. The tech support determined it's a defective drum and since I purchased it within the 90 days warranty period, I faxed them the purchase receipt and Brother said they would send me a new drum.

I replaced the toner twice, still did not help make the copy darker. I had replaced the drum with the toner the first time, figured it was bad toner and replaced another toner. No better.

Replaced toner and drum and the pages are too light. I find if I take the toner cartridge out and shake it a bit, the printer will print a bit darker for awhile.

Deedar - Fuser needs replacing, you can prove it by stopping a print halfway and see if print is ok before paper goes threw it, fuser is the hot bit/rear.

Brother MFC-7420 printing light after installing new cartridge

It could be an issue with the drum unit either being faulty or the internal drum counter having been reset sometime after a new drum was installed. I would recommend removing the currently installed drum unit and trying it in the second printer you mentioned with the toner cartridges that has been confirmed as working.

If the problem persists it is likely to be a froblem with a fuser or another internal part that is not traditionally a consumable item. In which case I would recommend contacting Brother or a printer technician.

The toner tray will not pull out from the machine

Replacing the Toner Cartridge
The MFC can print up to 6,000 pages using a high yield toner cartridge. When
the toner cartridge is running low, the LCD shows TONER LOW. The MFC is
supplied with a standard toner cartridge that must be replaced after
approximately 3,000 pages. Actual page count will vary depending on your
average document type (i.e., standard letter, detailed graphics).
Discard the used toner cartridge according to local regulations. If you are not
sure of them, your local Sanitation Department. Be sure to seal the toner
cartridge tightly so toner powder does not spill out of the cartridge. When
discarding used toner cartridges, keep them separate from domestic garbage.
We recommend that you clean the MFC when you replace the toner cartridge.
1 Open the front cover and pull out the drum unit.
Place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid
spilling and scattering the toner.
2 Hold down the lock lever on the right and pull the toner cartridge out of the drum
unit assembly.
Caution
Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes,
immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.
3 Unpack the new toner cartridge. Place the used toner cartridge into the
aluminum bag and discard it according to local regulations.
Wait to unpack the toner cartridge until immediately before you install it in the
MFC. If a toner cartridge is left unpacked for a long period of time, the toner life
is shortened.
You can use only a genuine Brother toner cartridge (TN-430 or TN-460), which
is specially formulated to ensure top print quality. Using another brand of toner
cartridge may void your MFC’s warranty. Warranty coverage does not apply to
problems caused by the use of 3rd party Toner, 3rd party Toner Cartridge or 3rd
party Drum unit.
4 Gently rock the toner cartidge from side
to side five or six times to distribute the
toner evenly inside the cartridge.
5 Remove the protective cover.
6 Insert the new toner cartridge in the
drum unit until it clicks into place.
7 Clean the primary corona
wire inside the drum unit by
gently sliding the blue tab
from right to left several
times. Return the blue tab to
the Home position ( )
before reinstalling the drum
unit assembly.
Reinstall the drum unit and close the
front cover.
Replacing the Drum Unit
The MFC uses a drum unit to create print images on paper. If the LCD shows
CHANGE DRUM SOON, the drum unit is near the end of its life and it is time
to purchase a new one.
Even if the LCD shows CHANGE DRUM SOON, you may be able to continue
printing without having to replace the drum unit for a while. However, if there
is a noticeable deterioration in the output print quality (even before CHANGE
DRUM SOON appears), then the drum unit should be replaced. You should
clean the MFC when you replace the drum unit. (See page 21-18.)
Caution
When removing the drum unit, handle it carefully because it contains toner. If
toner scatters and your hands or clothes get dirty, immediately wipe or wash
with cold water.
WARNING
Just after you have used the MFC, some
internal parts of the MFC are extremely
HOT! So please be careful.
The drum unit is a consumable item, and it is necessary to replace it periodically.
There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as temperature,
humidity, type of paper and how much toner you use for the number of pages per print
job. The estimated drum life is up to 20,000 pages. The actual number of pages your
drum will print may be significantly less than these estimates. Because we have no
control over the many factors that determine the actual drum life, we cannot
guarantee a minimum number of pages that will be printed by your drum.

I have a Brother mfc-8440. It prints light on the

Usually when it prints light on one side and normal on the other, it's either the drum (which you replaced) a dirty corona wire, or the toner is unevenly distributed in the cartridge. You can removed the toner cartridge and gently drop it from a distance of about 4-5 inches to dislodge any caked up toner. This is normal in a cartridge that has sat a while or if the fax machine is in a room with high humidity.
Hope this answers your question and best of luck.

Remove your drum unit and you will see on top of where the drum unit sits inside your machine is a piece of glass(inside the machine). Wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth. If this do not work, remove your toner cartridge and see if the toner is spread evenly on the cartridge.
