Question about Sony KV-27V26 27" TV

1 Answer

Video flashes off and on.

Sony KV-27V26 The set takes a long time to warm up (up to 20 minutes) with no picture - audio is fine. Once it warms up the video flashes off and on. Initially this flashing lasted another 15 minutes or so. Eventually it stabilized. But it recently started flashing after this start up period - sometimes after the set has been on for hours with no flashing. However, now the flashing is almost always occuring. The video is off for approx. 3 or 4 seconds, then it's on for approx. 10 seconds. Thanks for any advice!

    Thanks very much!

    One final question...

I'm definitely not able to do this repair myself, so I'll have to go to
a repair shop. Is this likely to be an expensive fix? What should I
    expect to pay?

Thanks again. I really appreciate your help!

The tuner module is bad.
where the cable goes in in the back of the set, there is 2 modules on the main pc board and they are soldered in.
the smaller block is the IF module and it has broken grounds inside. it has to be removed from the main pc board and there is 7 pins or so.once the module is out, remove the tin covers and resolder the grounds around the perimeter.put the module back in.
i have fixed 100 of them

it takes about an hour and a half.the repair should cost less than 100 dollars.i fixed alot of those tuners and IF modules.

if someone is not familiar with the problem,it can be difficult to trace down.there is a unit called a tuner sub box. you put the signal into the IF block and there should be a picture.

the other option that you can try is to run a vcr video out and audio out into the video and audio inputs in the back of the t.v.. this bypasses the tuner and IF module. direct video and audio. you have to put the input select to video. you can buy a used vcr for cheap these days. best of luck...

Picture blinks for about 4 minutes then comes into clear picture

Is the flashing get more rapid as the set warms up and even once its on is the picture somewhat out of focus around the corners? If the answer is yes then your picture tube is showing signs of age. The older they get the lower the emissions are. The replacement picture tube part number 8-735-048-15 is showing a cost of 741.45 from the following web site. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks...

Sony KV-35S66 Audio ok but no Video

Is your picture somewhat weak ? This could be a problem with the picture tube . One thing you can try is to turn the screen control up just alittle at a time to see if the picture comes in . Once it does turn off and back on to see it it comes back on again . It might take 10 to 20 seconds but if it does your picture tube is weak . The control is on the flyback transformer it is the bottom control . Or it may be on the crt board on the picture tube . One thing to check once the picture comes is the video input . If you go to this mode and see faint white lines might want to try to turn the control down a little more to see if you can get them out and the picture stays on , if not thats how going to have to watch it . These picture tubes are expensive $500.00 to 700.00 depending on which one you have . One possible other thing if you tell me the picture was a great picture almost like brand new check the horizontal section for a loose connection as this will cause this problem . Don't get shocked and be carefull , Good luck

Sony tv snow for first 5 minutes on

Probably dry solder joints in the tuner section.

When the set warms up, the faulty joint/s make contact, then lose contact again when it cools down.

Delay to see the picture

Your power supply is going south, I have an old sony with the same problem. The voltage level drops and does not have enough 'kick' to start. It will work better when it is warm. The module will need to be replaced.

Tv takes a minute to get picture

Greg , Sounds like a bad "jungle IC" but without knowing specific voltages it`s really hard to say, picture should show up in approximately 15 seconds not a full minute, it`s normal for the audio to be heard almost instantly way ahead of the video, part number for the IC is 875210104, generic number is cxa2154as, be prepared they are not cheap IC`s, I would probably run the set for awhile and see if it gets worse as time goes by. good luck

Video blinking - sound works fine (KV-36FS10)

Sounds like you have 1999/2000 model Sony with a CRT that is showing its age. This would be a tech fix but, most likely not worth the repair cost. It probably flashes slower when the set is cold and gets more rapid when it warms up.
