Question about Homelite 'Yard Broom' Leaf Blower

I have a Homelite Yard Broom gas blower that won't prime/stalls.

I have a Homelite Yard Broom gas blower. I've had problems with lack of power on full acceleration for a long time. I lived with it. I would have to open & close choke a few times while running and warmed up to maintain power. But just recently it will start run at all; starts & stops immediately upon acceleration. Prime bulb draws no fuel into it (bulb compresses but stays compressed for long ttime). Also when I try & start it and open the choke the gas spills into the air filter & drips on the floor. I took off fuel lines, replaced one & checked for blockages; none noted. A neighbor said maybe the diaphragm is torn? What to do? Thanks, Jim Devine - Bethpage NY

    Will idle but not go to full power. It just dies, looks like fuel starvation of some type.

    Thank you John for sharing; I am going on vacation Friday for 2 weeks. God willing, when I return I will follow your guidance as best I can. I love taking on stuff like this when I am guided by an expert. Re: cleaning carb please help me understand a few comments you made. (1) What does "a breakdown/IPL" mean" for cleaning a carb? (2) The carburetor on this blower seems very small. Do you mean that I need to buy a 1 Gallon can of Gunk Carb cleaner or get an empty "gallon" can (say coffee/juice etc. ) and put enough Gunk in it to completely immerse the carb? (3) Where can I buy a "kit"? Bless you, Jim

The manual probably says 40:1 (3.2oz.oil to 1 gal gas) but if you use a good modern 2 cycle oil,50:1(2.6oz .oil to 1 gal gas) will suffice.

depends if its 2 or 4 stroke if its 4 stroke the just regular gas if its two stroke then mixed gas and the ratio is 32:1

Yard broom leaf blower will not stay running I


It seems that the carb is not getting fuel. It could be a cracked fuel line. The fuel priming bulb could also be cracked/dry rotted. Possibly the fuel pump in the carb is bad. The carb is rather intricate and not something anyone without training should try to repair. The overhaul kit will cost $15 to $20. I suggest you take the blower to a repair shop.

If you go about 32:1 you will be OK. It may be a 40:1 unit, but better safe than sorry if you are not certain.

sounds like you not getting enough gas,or you are getting air in gas line,, check for air bubbles in gas line,, if you dont have any then clean the carb. good,, hope this help you

Just bought a used leaf blower, homelite, gas leaks out of the gas tank, where the gas tube fits into it.

I assume you're describing the gas tank cap. if so, the o-ring is missing from the gas tank cap. You can find those at hardware stores.
