Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

Burned CRT Is it worth it to replace a burned CRT? How do I know which one is bad? What should it cost to get it fixed? Is it something I could do myself- I'm a marine mechanic but little elecronics knowledge?

The tv powers on fine. There are no missing colors. It won't get bright- I have to watch it in a dark room- and there are lines and numbers that seem to be burned in place. Also, there is red foggy stuff on half the screen. Part of the screen is unaffected and works fine. Could it be convergence?

SOURCE: my mitsubishi CS-35405

This condition can be easily fix by replacing and IC that is the vertical amplifier.
The number is something like LA7835 or LA7836, this IC is mounted on a heatsink.
Do a search in google for it.

My tv has a black screen over picture can i replace picture tube myself

That tv has no tube, and if the screen is bad it will cost more for a new screen than the whole tv cost. Yes you can replace it but it's not worth it, I would have someone look at it as it might just be an inverter problem.

CRT TV with only a horizontal line through the center of screen.

Yeah. Unfortunately you are right. It is normally the ic that controlls power to the gun. And it is expensive.
Your only chance is to find another model of the same TV that some is ready to trash or throw away at low cost and that TV having some other defect. Advertise in the local newspaper or other channels. It is worth a shot.

The tv circuitboard has a 1\8 inch hole in it

The board it self is probably toast but if the set is a newer model and expensive then it might be worth fixing with a new board. My rule of thumb is not to spend more then 50% of the replacement cost to repair. Try and get a rough estimate for free and decide if it is worth it. Good Luck

Rca..model f38310

My set just recently went throgh the same problem. I found a bad connection on the power board and a burned diode as well. I repaired the conneciton but have had no luck getting the specs on the burned diode. RCA has been no help.
As for cost of repair, on serviceman quoted $50 just to come take a look.

TV Flickers red lines across tv screen

Sounds like you have an intermitant overdrive situation on the red CRT. This could be caused by a bad component on the Red CRT board, an intermittantly shorting CRT or the circuitry in the main board. You should not run it until the problem is resolved as you could damage the CRT if it is not already bad. This is something that unless you are a qualified tech you are not going to have any success resolving. It should not be very hard for a good tech to diagnose the problem. Costs will depend on the part which is bad. If it is the red CRT it probably is not worth fixing, but it could be a 50 cent capacitor. Certainly worth the cost of a service call. Good luck.
