Question about Philips HTS3410D/37 700W DVD Home Theater System System

1 Answer

DVD player does not load or think that it has a disc when it does. The CD player in same machine does work. Must be the laser. Can you fix it? It's a Philips Home Theater, about 2 years old.

The laser pickup is mis-aligned.
There is no end-user fix or adjustment.
If unplugging for a soft reset does not remedy - A professional must be consulted for proper alignment with a specialty tool/jig.
Look at a repair bill of under $50 for cleaning and alignment.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

How do i fix the dvd blue ray 3d player to load the dvd?

Most likely the laser is failing , try an audio CD if it works then it is a bad laser. A cd has much less data to read.

The dvd is not loading and will not play. the cds are working fine.

Hi,

how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Regards.

My Curtis dvd player 1046 won't play dvd's, it says its loading then it says bad disc

First, try playing a regular music CD and see if that works. Next step would be to get a laser lens cleaner disc and run that in the machine. They come in both CD and DVD styles. You most likely won't get a DVD version to work since it's not reading DVDs, but you might get lucky and get a CD version to work, thus the reason for trying a music CD in the player.

If the cleaning doesn't work, or you can't play a CD either, then something has most likely died. There are really only two things that could go wrong with a DVD player, either the spindle motor (spins the disc) dies, or the laser dies. Both are somewhat common problems on low-end electronics. They can be fixed, but with low-end units, like those made by Curtis, it would cost you less to toss it out and buy a new unit.

Disc shows loading then error on all dvd disc

Put a cd in the dvd player if it is marked that it plays cds... if it plays the cd your dvd laser is shot... cheaper to get a new unit. if it doesn't play a cd try cleaning the laser. and last but not the last thing try unplugging it for a short time then plug it back in... if nothing works get the one tool that fixs most everything...... take it to office depot and they can recycle the stuff inside and help keep the earth green...then onto wally world.

It won't read disc. After loading, it reads No Disc

Sounds like a read error fault , possibly a laser malfunction sometimes dirt on the lens will cause this try a good CD cleaner if this is no good I suggest a free engineers estimate at least you can then ask again on here how to fix it . My honnest guess is either a duff laser or software corruption . I have known seating of the tray to cause this also not returning fully back into machine , usually caused by children and alien matter ? shall we say such as choclate or M&MS kids shove stuff everywhere ? bless them lol
hope this helps Regards Vortash

WILL NOT PLAY A DISC

With the power turned off, open the DVD Player, and then open the top where you load the DVD into the player. Locate the laser lens and notice that the laser is attached to a transport assembly that moves the laser diagonally outward in a slot. 1. Slide this assembly outward to the end of its track. 2. Slide the assembly back inward to the closest inward position. 3. Repeat the process of sliding the assembly outward and then back inward.4. Put in a music CD and let it play all the way through. This helps to calibrate the laser head assembly movement. When the music CD is finished playing. 5. Put in a DVD, and you should have a working unit again This is a factory solution from Mintek that was given to a customer who ask for help with the forever loading disc problems. This solution may work on other models of portable DVD players. Most portable DVD players use this type of transport mechanism. Try this solution it might work for you.

Dvd player refuses to read any disc I load into the machine

Hello I was looking to try and help you with your DVD player, we will start by loading a music cd store purchased, no burned cds please, if the cd loads and plays then your dvd player is either out of adjustment or going bad, most dvd players, i have worked on, will load and play a music cd, but will show loading errors when trying DVD's. If the music cd dosen't load then there could be an issue with the drive or tray. If the music cd plays just fine, then your laser is either out of adjustment or going bad. You can call the manufacuter to see if there is a process for resetting the DVD player, not all DVD players have this option, if resetting the DVD player dosen't work, but music cd's do then your laser lens is dirty or going bad. At this point you have three options 1) Take it to a repair shop, 2) Get an new one, 3) Get your hands dirty if your really handy and know what your doing to clean and replace the laser. I hope I can be of further assitance and I look forward to helping in the future, Thank You and have a nice day.

Will not play

I have fixed this player by happenstance, costing nothing but a little time. Removing the bottom plate of the player exposes the driving mechanism that moves the laser along its glide, This player would not scan the width of the disc, There is a plastic rack gear driven by a small motor. The rack is spring loaded and can be depressed in order to move the laser along its glide without the motor running.
With a disc in the player, the bottom off and machine turned on, depress plastic rack and move the laser to the other end of its travel and watch for the drive motor to go crazy trying to put the laser where it thinks it should be. You can move the laser freely to any spot you wish back and forth making sure the drive motor responds. Then let go and it should start working. I think gummy bearings in the motor were at fault. Also the laser itself could be a problem if there is no beam working. It uses a HOP 1200 W laser pickup unit which can be obtained at Donberg Electronics in Ireland. One final thought. The bottom plate is held on by seven screws, one of which is longer than the rest. It must go in the hole it came out of because it anchors something inside the machine. GOOD LUCK !!!
