Either as bad rear bearing or a bad front seal and glides.  See if it sounds like its coming from back or front.

My tumble dryer is making a loud banging noise when it turns. It is on for a few minutes and seems to happen when it switches to turn the opposite way

It will be worn slipper pads that are around the front edge of the drum. If your dryer can run when inverted that will stop the noise until the pads wear down again.
Purchase some new slipper pads and remove the back panel of the dryer moving the drum back about 1 inch. You will now see were the slipper pads are fitted around the inside edge at the front.
There will be about 6 of them, you can take the top ones and move them to the bottom. This will also stop the banging until they also wear down.

Dryer rattle

Hi,
I guess you have stumbled upon the resolution yourself.
The Tub ratlling could be because of three things.
1. The Belt itself , as it might have slacked after use. and needs replacement
2. The tumbler bearing, that would require you to open the tub
3. The holding bolts that connect both the inside and outside tubs of the dryer.

and do check the floor balance of the dryer.if the surface is not even the dryer can tumble and make noise.

Thanks
Mandeep

My dryer is making a bumping noise, almost ike something is rubbing, It sounds like tennis shoes are being dried. If I put mt head near the bird cage I can hear a little noise. If I grab the tub I can move...

Without a model number all I can do is pass you a generic response. There are 2 sizes of repair kits that include drum rollers (Flat spots on yours) a belt and a drum felt. 27 inch and 29 inch. Having said that... the drum rollers are what are causing your thumping noise. PN: 303373
I would also replace the belt: 31531589 the drum glides 306508 and the drum seals Multi-listing here: http://www.repairclinic.com/Maytag-Dryer-Gasket-Or-Seal-Parts?z=50 also inspect the idler pulley and bearing. Not sure how old your dryer is but by doing the above you should get more than 5 years good service out of your dryer. It is worth the time effort and expense to repair it.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

When on spin cycle, Maytag MAV5057AWW vibrates excessively more so than just an unbalanced load. When I open the lid the whole tub and agitator is moving around alot forward and back as well as side to...

make sure you loads are balanced, put heaviest clothes in first... if you can rock it by hand then the legs are not adjusted properly. If you stand 2 feet away from front of machine, jump up and down and see it move the floor is soft and you need 2 sheets of plywood to make 1 1/2 inches put under the machine

Kenmore dryer will not turn on

Sounds like a classic broken Belt. You'll have to take the front or top off to gain access to the belt and it is wrapped around the TUB. If you can pull it up and down with no problems its the belt or the idler tentioner that keeps the belt tight.

Possibly its also the tub rolers or bearings but if you can push the tub from the inside by hand you will know if its in this area or not. If it turns freely then the belts off or broke cause when its on and tight you anct make it move very far. Important not to make the tub turn back wards too far especially if its tough to move. If its loose to move then either way usually dosnt hurt anything.

Dryer makes scrapping and squeaking noise

The front drum support has wore out. Reach your hand in the tub and puch up on it. If it moves up and down a lot the support is wore. Buy a new support and front slides and it will stop squeeling.

I have a fridgeair front load stackable dryer. The dryer tub has problems getting started rotating. At times it also makes loud noises coming from the back center of tub. In order to get tub started...

Frigidaire Dryers use a ball and socket in the rear to support the drum. The socket is made of a Teflon type of plastic that will wear out when the grease is no longer present. By now, the ball of the drum is probably grinding away at the metal support for the socket, thus the loud noise. At the same time the front seals are probably worn out. These two things combined is causing alot of friction keeping the drum from turning freely. The parts required to fix these issues are not that expensive. Getting the dryer apart to replace these items however is time consuming and easier with two people.
The top panel, control panel, front panel and the drum will all have to be removed.
