Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Fridge stays cold most of the time, but sometimes just warms up, then goes cold again. Fan runs during both periods.

Fridge runs well most of the time, but then it stops cooling for a few hours. Ice melts, etc. then it gets cold again. The fans run during both periods. GE Stainless side by side, with water/ice dispenser I thinking the model is GE GS2H25SGPC SS

Hello Parnn,

I understand thating you are having to problems with you refrigerator one the lights are staying on, second the fridge is not getting cold.

The lights are not turning off because of the light switch. The switch needs replaced it is located on the door jamb so that when the door closes the light goes off.

The secound problem is usually the fan located with the evaperator coil. This fan pulls the air thru the coil and pushes it into the fridge section. When the unit is running you should be able to hear the fan running in the back of the freezer. If the fan is not running the freezer will stay cold but the fridge will not recieve any cool air.

In order to get parts for Sub-Zero Refridgerators you must contact them at 1-800-222-7820 and they will send you to their authorized parts distrubitors.

Thank you for choosing FIxYa.com

ZFSB26DRESS water runs warm and freezer not staying cold.

It sounds like the condenser coils , the coils by the compressor , need cleaned badly . This (and the compressor cooling fan) , can cause the compressor to cut off on overload (due to the heat) , thereby not circulation refrigerant thru out the freezer coils .
The water line goes from inside the freezer door ( cold ) , under the refrig ( warm ) , then to the inside refrig water reservoir ( cold ) . After that , you should get cold water , until the reservoir is drained of cold water .

My samsung is cold at the bottom of the fridge and warm at the top

Im assuming you mean the freezer is cold but the fridge is not . Most of the time these auto defrost fridges require a internal evaporator fan to draw the frost from the freezer to the fridge compartment. If the fan is stuck, it will not be able to transfer this frost. Before any major strip down, suggest you defrost fridge unit for approx 12 hours and start again. 90% of the time this will correct the problem. Almost certainly door was left open accidently for a period which resulted in this. Please let me know if not the answere.

Freezer cold, fridge warm

The small cooling fan in the freezer compartment that sends chilled air to the food side is defective and needs replacement.  Sometimes that are only frozen stuck.

When you receive advice from this website you have to understand that without the item in front of us, we are only able to provide "a best guess" as to what the problem might be based on you description of the defect.  If you haven't described a clear and precise description of the defect you decrease the chances of an accurate reply.  Thank you.

Fridge section runs warm. Freezer ok it seems.

Sounds like the inside fan is getting worn out. Should vary in speed. Try replacing the fan and see if that fixes it. I'd bet it will. ken

Refrigerator won't get cold

You likely have a defrost cycle failure. The freezer's cooling coils need to be frosty and cold so the air that the fan pulls over them can cool the fridge section. If the defrost cycle fails, the coils freeze up to a block of ice and air flow suffers (fridge is about 55 degrees F). The freezer stays cold only because there's a block of ice in there now... sometimes that cold "sinks" to the bottom and only the food at the bottom stays frozen (and can even freeze food at the bottom of the fridge compartment while the rest is warm). To be sure, you'll need to take the rear interior panel off the freezer back wall and check the coils to see if they are frozen solid. If they are then there's a defrost cycle failure. If they are showing a nice white frosty pattern evenly all over the coils then that's normal and maybe the evap fan (right above the coils) is not blowing air up properly or is not working at all. That fan should run if the compressor is running, etc. the only time it doesn't run is during an actual defrost cycle. Once you find out what condition the coils are in it should be simple to direct you further on the problem.
