Question about Televison & Video
The channels will to expanded and tell whats on, the info works but I can'nt get picture or sound. The music channels work.
I called Comcast they said I could buy a box from ebay and it would be no problem. When I got it had no pic or sound, I called and they said if it was unplugged for 2 months or more it wouldn't have proper upgrades and is junk and said not to buy from ebay. Then why did they tell me I could on the first phone call? Thanks Comcast.....

By Law they (Cable Company) have to give you service if you buy a box I bought one from the internet and I called Comcast. At first they wanted to give me a problem but when I explained my rights and the law of having the option to buy your own box I got it hooked up and after 2 hours the box worked perfectly. So yes they can turn on a box it's just that they (Cable Company) doesn't want to take the time.

The cable company will not active a box that was used yard sale or ebay you need to buy one from motorola and active it from you cable company most of them are stolen.
that may already been on there system with the mac number and serial number that turn off the service to the box

There is also a cable card installed in the back of the box. You need this cable card for your box. Make them rent you one for $2/mo.

The cable "box" has to first be in the cable company's inventory, then "burned" with the appropriate channel lineup for that area. It has to be in their billing system which communicates with another system called the DAC.
Unless the box is in their system, it will not have audio or video.
