Re: Motorola Cable Box DCt2244/1661/abcdeg

I called Comcast they said I could buy a box from ebay and it would be no problem. When I got it had no pic or sound, I called and they said if it was unplugged for 2 months or more it wouldn't have proper upgrades and is junk and said not to buy from ebay. Then why did they tell me I could on the first phone call? Thanks Comcast.....

By Law they (Cable Company) have to give you service if you buy a box I bought one from the internet and I called Comcast. At first they wanted to give me a problem but when I explained my rights and the law of having the option to buy your own box I got it hooked up and after 2 hours the box worked perfectly. So yes they can turn on a box it's just that they (Cable Company) doesn't want to take the time.

The cable company will not active a box that was used yard sale or ebay you need to buy one from motorola and active it from you cable company most of them are stolen. that may already been on there system with the mac number and serial number that turn off the service to the box

There is also a cable card installed in the back of the box. You need this cable card for your box. Make them rent you one for $2/mo.

The cable "box" has to first be in the cable company's inventory, then "burned" with the appropriate channel lineup for that area. It has to be in their billing system which communicates with another system called the DAC.

Unless the box is in their system, it will not have audio or video.

Not enough info in your Q to help you.

1) What's the source?; TV tuner (digital terrestrial, cable, satellite. Internal or external tuner/receiver box)

2) One channel - some channels - or all channels affected?

3) Just this TV, or are other TVs affected in the house too

4) Are your neighbours having the same issues?

5) What have you done so far to troubleshoot the problem yourself? (retuned, checked cables, checked signal level, realigned aerial/antenna etc)

TV will not display picture or sound except for 1 station which appears to be 440. I can't change the channel either at the dials or remote. The display says EAS.

DONT USE the remote that came with your TV

use the buttons on the box to change the channel. did the channel change?

usually when someone only has one channel its because they are changing the tv channel not the cable box channel

think of it like this:
the TV is a monitor and should always be on the same channel (3, 4, hdmi, or whatever) its actually the box that tunes and the tv always stays on the same channel.

so if you change the tv channel you are no longer watching the output of the cable box.

USE the remote supplied by your cable provider

Motorola dvr dct6412 locked channels

Check with your provider to ensure that you are in expanded services, or limited. Because being on limited services the box will lock you out of those channels. If you are in billing for those services and you checked the batteries on your remote and they are good and you get a solid red blink when you change channels not a double blink (indicating that your batteries are dying), Then try power cycling your DVR by, removing the power supply and waiting 3sec then plug it back in. Your box should shut off, turn itself back on, then go into the load screen, then, once the load screen display shows on your tv and on box display, wait for your box to completely load (don't touch nothing until the correct time shows up, meaning that it has completed the load process) Once the process is complete turn box back on and you should have you guide back up and (No Data) on your program schedule(Don't Worry!!) it will populate, with 15-20 mins.

Now try to ch. up and down and see if that fixed the problem. also make sure nothing is blocking the sensor. If all else fails and you changed the battery, called your cable provider and request a box swap, (be sure to watch all your recorded shows because they go bye, bye with the cable guy!)

Motorola DCH3200 cable box: sound and sometimes video cutting out

Sounds like your SNR is getting too high and causing the signal to overload. A few things can cause this a bad splitter that causes the signal to bleed and introduces noise, or a more common issue is having a weak signal coming from the cable provider and once it goes through a splitter it causes the signal to become to weak to be stable.

Since it sounds like your cable has been working up until recently, you may have had a cable or splitter go bad.

Call comcast and have a technician come out and test the line.

Its not going to work unless it is authorized by the cable company, and has the correct software.

Philips 32pt television screen format off center, to the left

For me it was the cable box settings...

I'm not a tech person, so take this for what its worth. I had the same problem with my Vizio and my Time Warner Cable HD/DVR box using the HDMI cord connection. HD channels were always fine, and non HD channels were fine until I went to an HD channel and back. When switching back, the non-HD channels would be shifted to the left as you describe. After much back and forth with both Vizio and Time Warner (each saying its caused by the other), I stumbled across the following fix...

I went into the cable box (scientific atlanta 8300) "settings", under "display," under "output resolution." There was a list including 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and "auto select." I unchecked both 480 options and left 720 and 1080 checked. Problem solved. The other "Display" menu settings are as follows: Picture Size = Stretch, Aspect Ratio = 16x9.

Hope this helps.

Is it the DCT or the cable signal?

if you are getting signal of the proper strength and quality the cabling is good.the problem is the box trying to decode the signals.a lot of signals are encripted and have to be decoded by the box.if the box is not responding fast enough you will see bloches on the tv.if you see scrambled channel you are not payinfor that channel.and if you are paying for a channel and it comes up scrambled your box is not working correct.get your company to upgrade the box.

Motorola DCT 2244/1661/abcdeg locked up

Pay Per View events, or IPPV events are stored inside the unit on NVRAM (Non-Volitile RAM) until the DAC-6000 (Digital Access Controller) calls up or "polls" your unit for IPPV events.
They cannot be removed by "resetting" the unit.  Some claim unplugging the unit for several hours or days.... other claim that you can unplug the unit, hold down the power and select buttons at the same time, and plug the unit back in (while holding these buttons) and watch the LED screen flash 8888 several times and then let go of the power and select buttons.  All this does is erase the firmware, NOT the IPPV or polling information.
Only the DAC-6000 can remove the events from your unit. Those events are stored in the unit forever until it's correctly polled by the DAC.
Once those events are collected you will be billed for everything you watched.
The "0" you are seeing on the LED screen indicates it has lost it's firmware and is basically a "brick" until it has been properly re-authorized with the firmware and cleared any polling events.

No right channel audio when using HDMI connection to HDTV

Since it is easier to replace, I would go with the cable box first. Sometimes there are software upgrades for the TV's that fix such issues but, almost all HDMI issues are with the cable box not the tv.
