Ink smudges on envelopes

I have and HP Laser Jet 4250N and am having a problem with the envelopes smudging when using tray 1. I have replaced the fuser and have tried different envelopes, but still have the same problem, have also adjusted media type to envelopes to increase heat from fuser unit

I can't find an "envelope" option on the printer. All I see are "plain paper" and then photo type paper settings.

SOURCE: envelopes smudge

I have been informed that these fusers have a seperate heating element in the middle of the heat roller for envelopes to save energy and it's temperature is not sensed by the thermistor. If I trick the printer (with paper path tests) into printing envvelopes while thinking that it is letter the fusing is ok.

SOURCE: Poor quality smudge and ink blotting marks in the centre of any printed document

Try performing a test by printing a test page from Tray 1 and open the top cover as soon as the paper is 60% inside. The paper would jam below the toner cartridge before it reaches the fuser. Remove the toner cartridge carefully and verify if the smudges occur. This would eliminate the fuser. If the print quality is fine, then you need to swap the fuser.

The paper thickness lever is not on the front...it is on the floor of the "paper output tray" chamber. It is hard to see without directed light.

Refer to Loading Paper section of the Quick Start Guide....p 15 2 Prepare to load paper
(4) Adjust Paper Thickness Lever
(See diagram)

Or look at the "User's Guide on-screen manual" as directed by the Note on p. 17

I really had to search to find this lever while attempting to resolve my problem with a badly aligned printing head. I am going to have to buy a new printer. It definitely won't be a Canon due to the rip off cost of print cartridges.

Hope this is helpful.

HP Photosmart Premium c309a series smudging wedding invitation envelopes badly. I can print the invitations and everything else just fine. Any suggestions? Thank you.

when you go to print your envelope and click the print command - a window will open with the name of your printer and a box that says properties. click on properties. Change the type of envelope stock to match what you are printing on in the next window. If you are using photo paper envelope with a glossy finish, make sure that is the print media you have set for your printer. If not, the ink will just keep smudging. it's very important to match the print stock (matte, glossy, premium ect).

I have a HP Color laser jet 2600n printer. I have tried different Glossy paper, marked for laser jet, but still get bad smudges on my prints. these smudges are still visible on the next ordinary prints...

You need to ensure that you are telling the printer that and your print driver that you are using glossy paper as this will change the speed that the printer prints at and ensure better bonding.

Smudging on envelopes

Set the printer preferences so that there is an ink-drying pause, like it does for duplex printing, should be enough time to dry (go into preferences of the printer properties)

HP LASERJET 4250n

This problem is with the fuser. It needs to be replaced. They tend to burn out right in the center leaving a rolling smudge across the page as the unfused toner left on the roller gets printed on the next roll-over.

Print is Smudged

you may try
1) clean the cartridge nozzles with dry soft paper
2) clean the cartridge carriage down side surface there might be bled ink.
3) check the cartridge up side there is the lable cover the ink refill hole is ok, no any lable stick there you need put stick lable there.

Ink smudges off envelope

You will need to select in the drive that the media type you are putting in is envelopes this will adjust the printer fusing section to increase the heat.

Also you must select to go through tray one when doing this open the back door and the printed envelope will come out of the back and should be fine. If not try a lesser grade of envelope if still the same problem then the fuser unit is slipping and will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps you
Thanks J
