I have been with Sirius since it came out and I have had this problem with every unit I have owned. There is something seriously wrong with the design of there antenna connection. I can wiggle the connection and get it to work for a while, then it goes out again.

this is an epidemic! Same problems: Car Toys told me I had to buy a new unit due to "acquiring signal" message. I wasn't convinced, and I didn't have $200 anyway. Did some internet research. Checked and moved location of antenna. It worked! For about 20 minutes, then "acquiring signal." I have also turned off/on with some degree of success...but in the end it's like one of Stephen King's horror movies....ACQUIRING SIGNAL

Aquiring Signal - my first SP4 only worked for about 2 weeks, I replaced the unit with another (under warranty) and now the replacement unit is a little more than 1 year old and the same problem is reoccurring. Problem seems to be more prevalent in colder temps (less than 50F). I remove it from the car dock daily so it doesn't get ripped-off. After reading the thread this appears to be a defect rather than operator error.

I also have ths sportster. Used it fine for several years, between the docking station in my vehicle and the one at work. Also have a boom-box for it. I'm getting the same error on all three. It's gotta be the radio rather than the various docking stations. Shifting it around on the dock seemed to result in better connections, but only temporarily. It's steadily getting worse and is now virtually unusable. Even tried a thin coating of electric grease, but without effect. If Sirius won't provide correction, I'll cease use at the end of my contract. Too bad -- I liked the product, but it looks like they're going out of business anyway.

I have also been having the same problem and this current receiver only lasted about about a year. Sirius sent me a new receiver but it was an InV2 and is not compatable with my boom box. I decided not to renew my subscription. It's to bad because I really enjoyed the service but their hardware is ****.

Mine did the same thing. I opened it up and looked at solder joints (with a jewlers loop eyepiece) where antenna jack solders to board and found solder joint cracked (from constantly handling docking station and reciever) . Re-soldered and now its ok again. TaaaaDaa

I've had the same problem, but it appears to be with the actual magnet portion of the antenna. I've had it running without error for over a year and have had Sirius for 3 years. My old unit wore out due to my insertion and removal of the unit for security reasons. The current unit appears to have gotten some water in the magnet portion mounted on my roof. The signal goes in and out when I go over bumps or have a quick stop or start, suggesting something is getting jogged. I suspect a drop of water. There are electronics inside the magnet piece, similar to a chip or PC card. Antenna replacement is the least frustrating solution I've found. Try or your local dealer. I think the site may have better prices, but if you don't want to wait like me, the store is the best bet. Make sure you don't pick up an XM antenna by mistake.

The connectors in the bottom of the radio and the base mount can wear out or get dirty. I do not know how many insertions the connectors are good for but it looks like they didn't use a connector designed for enough insertions. Mine has displayed the same problem. I have two antennas and it is displaying "antenna not detected" with both.

Refresh xmradio ca

Important to have your antenna have a clear view of the SW sky and that you can hear channel 1 clearly. Then call the 800 number to get the radio activated. If you don't have a clear pathway to the SW for the antenna, it's not going to work.

Issue with gps not working cant get it to work

Most issues with GPS devices relate back to the lack of a clear view of the southern sky (for those located above the equator or a northern sky for those below the equator). if you are in an open area, and still unable to get it to work properly - read on.

If this is a new installation, review and carefully check your work. Make sure all connections are made up properly and tight. Check the manual to make sure you're using the product the way it is intended.

Check your antenna. A poorly connected, damaged, obscured or missing antenna will prevent the GPS from obtaining a "fix". The antenna should have an unobstructed view of the sky. If still unable to get it to work, contact BOSS directly via their webpage here.

Good luck!

What is wrong with a satellite reciever when all I am getting is aquiring signal displayed

This indicates that the antenna is not gathering enough of the signal to be played. This can be caused by an obstruction between the antenna and the satellite in the sky ie: tall buildings, heavy tree cover, covered garage, etc. It can also indicate a problem with the antenna itself, the cable between the antenna and the radio, the connector on the end of the cable or in the radio or, a problem with the antenna circuit inside the radio.

Since there's little you can do about the last item in the list, check the other parts of the antenna for damage. A pinched or crushed cable will short out the antenna signal - and the voltage sent to it by the radio. If allowed to persist for very long, damage to the radio could result. Look for breaks in the outer jacket of the cable - water entering the cable will cause corrosion and will degrade the signal, too. If you find a problem with any part of the antenna system, about the only thing you can do is replace the antenna completely. You can get a replacement online for as little as $9 and change.

Before installing, try connecting the antenna to the radio with the antenna exposed to ta clear view of the sky in a location that you were able to receive a signal before. If it works, you're done. If it doesn't - the problem is internal to the radio and will need to be repaired - or replaced.

I hope this was helpful - if it was - please rate it "4 thumbs up" Thanks!

Signal drifts in and out

Make sure that your Xm antenna has a clear view of the sky. If your antenna cable is ok, and the antenna is in a clear location, and the antenna cable is properly plugged into the unit,
Also, if you're in an area with alot of tress, mountains, tall buildings etc... this can cause the signal to fade in and out.

We lose fix info. on the c120and the Auto pilot has no display. The problem is intermittent

This sounds like a problem with the receiver. If you can not get GPS fix (sometimes) you will have to start looking at the GPS antenna and cable. If the unit is new check out the location of the antenna. As with anything that works with satellites it need a clear view of the sky to fix onto the "birds". A GPS connects to numerous "birds" at a time, so ensure that the antenna has a wide angle view of the sky. If it is old you will have to start looking for connection problems. This is usually the case when the fault is intermittent. Check for possible water damage and loose or less than adequate connections. Also ensure the cable is in a good condition.

Keeps cutting out

All satellite radio cuts out every once and a while. The problem is that if there are a bunch of trees or bridges it wont work. It needs a direct view of the sky to be fully functional.

My Sirius/XM radio in my car works perfect until I get home (I live in a small wooded area) or when I go under a bridge. As far as at home, if your antenna is near a window by an open sky it should work good; but if you're playing it in your basement there is a 50/50 chance it will work. I suggest getting an antenna extension and putting it in an open sky portion of your house.

Good luck! If i"ve helped you out in any way please give me a good rating!

Roady XT "Antenna" problem

one of 3 things, either your antenna is not insight of a skies view to receive the signal, or its wire is broken at the antenna, but if you remove the antenna connection frequently it pulls the center wire out of the connection on the end that fits into the radio when its plugged in push on the conductor at the back of the plug and see if this helps, alos if connection is loose take a safety pin and carefully between the outer plug case ans the ground fingers around the center pin push these in so you get a better ground, and lastly try another substitute antenna, I have re-soldered my connections numerous times to fix this issue, delphi doesn't make a very rugged product, good luck

Acquiring signal

Even with the antenna looking like it is in good shape, it still may be the problem here. Physical damage may not be present, but there could be electrical damage (power surge) or corrosion on the antenna if it is in a moist environment. A quick trip to a local stereo shop can confirm this as new antenna can be plugged in to the unit to test. Also, the problem is more evident when the antenna is mounted inside the vehicle. For best reception, it is recommended that the antenna be mounted to the exterior of the vehicle and have a clear view of the sky. Make sure that there is plenty of metal underneath the antenna and you should be fine.

No signal

Do you have the radio on your dash and the antenna is on the rear back of your vehicle? If not then do this. Is there a magnet with this antenna? That means you can place it on your car on the out side, be careful not to crimp that wire...your radio has to have a clear view to the sky...did you have a clear view when you called in for activation? This means that you had to be out in the open. may need to call in for re-activation to see if this may help. If this does not help may need to take in to radio shack or circuit city to have a tech look at it.
