HOW DO I OPEN THE CRADLE LATCH OF HP 5550? - HP DeskJet 5550 InkJet Printer

Similar problem, but this time the cradle broke. Is there a replacement part available? If so, where? Would you estimate the cost of the replacement part to be worth the effort or is the printer DOA?

    Thanks.

You've been very careful not to do what you think would break the top cover.  But sometimes you have to take a risk and trust the instructions which tell you to "Open the top cover".  Yes, it's going to require a bit of a jerk to get it open.  If you go to the HP website there's a picture which shows that no release buttons or latches are involved.

Can't find ink levels on my printer

I just had this same problem on my Deskjet 5550 printer. The orange light (ink indicator) was staying on. I found out that all you need to do is just open the front cover to the printer. If your printer is running out of ink, the print cradle will move to either the far left or far right side. If it moves to the far left side, the BLACK cartridge is low or empty and should be replaced. If the print cradle stays on the far right side, the COLOR cartridge should be replaced. Normally, when you open the front cover, the print cradle should move to the center. Hope this helps!
