  • JEN BUELL May 13, 2009

I have taken off the back and the belt seems to be fine. I cleared all the lint out of the bottom and still nothing.

  • JEN BUELL May 14, 2009

I turned off all the breakers to the house 1 by 1 an flipped them all back on. I looked at the power cord wires and nothing is loose or looks burnt. Im getting an ohm meter tomorrow to check that, but if not a power issue, then what?

Can you give me a model number? It is usually on the front panel inside what the door buts up against. But before you do this make sure your breaker to the electric dryer has not tripped, find that breaker and turn it all the way off and then all the way back on and then confirm you that you are getting proper electricity to the outlet cord. going to the dryer...please write back and let me know...

    Thanks

Hi, It sounds like there might be a bad fuse in the dryer. Please get me your model # and I will see if I can get you through this.

Thanks,
Vic

Hi, After looking at the picture of you dryer, You might have a broken belt. On this model, if the belt brakes the dryer will not start. Open the door and you will find two screw located at the top edge where the door closes against. These screws hold the top to the cabinet. Lift the top and you should see the belt around the drum. If you do not see the bel, it is probably laying under the drum. If you find this is the cause, let me know and I can give you direction on changing belt. I also have a web sight for selling parts. I coukd help you in that mannor also.

Are you sure there is power to the dryer? Do you have fuses or breakers? Do you have a voltage meter?

You can check the door switch also, but I believe you should hear the timer if that is bad also. When you get the ohm meter, you can test continuity on all the safety stats located on the heatiing element housing. This meter will help you get answers.

Not allways,...some electric dryer will actually spin and run but the heat won't come on if the breaker has tripped halfway. A normal exectric dryer runs on a 220/240 breaker and it can trip halfway and won't even look tripped. That is why I say to turn the breaker off and then back on. I have had many a customer call me back at my business and tell me "thank you for telling me that, I was about to pay for a service call!" This may not be your problem but you need to rule it out. If the breaker is totally tripped on most dryers it wouldnt make any sound at all at the timer. Have you checked the breaker? Inspect the cord at the back of the dryer and make sure you dont have a broken/burnt off wire from your cord connecting to your dryer. Be careful and Get back with me after you have and I will research your dryer and we will go from there....thanks

If your belt is intact and good and tight, (make sure there is tension on it), and no burt off wires that you can see and your breaker is good...unplug the machine and raise the lid/top and look at the three sensors to the side and the back of the machine. You mentiond you cleaned out the machine and there is a safety switch that when the unit gets too hot because of buildup it will go out and completely dissable the machine. I am sending you a link to the diagram of this part of the machine. #505 on the diagram is the part to examine. you can take the two leads that go to that and put them together, (with the dryer unplugged allready and temporarily hook them together, making sure the metal ends at the end of the wires on either side of this fuse do not touch any other metal. maybe temporarily tape them together with electrical tape. Close the top but you dont have to screw everything back tight and plug it in...this is a safety switch and needs to be replaced but it will let you know if this is the problem...write back and let me know and if this doesnt work it maybe your timer....

I have a Kenmore 70 top load dryer that is not heating. And the timer doesnt turn off anymore either. Both items seem to have malfunction at the same time. Help?

This is typical. If the heating element is no longer working, the unit doesnt know to turn off due to the clothes still being wet. However, the timer has absolutely nothing to do with the heating of the unit. If the timer doesnt turn off the unit even when the time is short (example: 10 minute timed dry), the timer has a different issue. If you have merely set the dryer to dry the clothes (not a "timed cycle" to dry) then the dryer will continue to run as I have stated before. The dryer will run until the clothes are dry. Now, its time to address the heating part. Your dryer heating element has gone bad. It can be replaced if you are somewhat handy. You can pick one up from your local appliance store and it has simple instructions. Please make sure that you disconnect the unit from its power source prior to attempting any repairs. Safety First. You can also call someone to replace it for you and it shouldnt be too costly. Good luck on either option.
