Question about Craftsman 20 Hp 42" Deck Lawn Tractor

1 Answer

Hi. I have a 19.5 HP Sears Lawn Tractor, model # 917.270821. The problem I'm having is with the steering in that it has become increasingly more difficult to steer. I greased the two fittings with a tube of grease but did not see grease exit from the top of the spindle. Should it have? Any suggestions as to how I can remedy my problem? Thanks. Tony

Jack up front of tractor and remove clip at top of spindle move steering wheel back and fourth to get spindle to slide down clean and grease then reassemble this will fix most of them unless you have a bushing priblem you will see when removed .

Look under the running boards, Sears(AYP) sometimes put them there if not, go to www3.sears.com , type in your 917.xxxxxx model number and it will show you an exploded view of it

Sears 19 hp twin 42 inch tractor, won't start if hot

Hi
Two things come to mind. First it could be not getting enough fuel when hot due to carb adjustment being too lean. That could be that the float level in the carb is set too low or the low speed jet is set too lean. When cold the choke circuit in the carb supplies the extra fuel required.
Second in some enjines that have low compression they start cold but when hot the compression drops below 60 psi and makes starting very difficult until engine cools down.
I suspect a fuel problem.
