If your Phone service is recording messages, that disconnects your line. You need to have them turn that feature off, OR set the answering machine to answer is less rings, say two or three. If the FAX machine listens to the line, it can still be set at a higher amount of rings, say four, and should still answer any FAX signal as it's sent to the answering machine.

Hi,

I am sorry but there is no way to use an external answering machine with this phone. The phone has a built in answering machine if I am not mistaken.

Perhaps your answering machine needs to be set set to accept messages. Maybe your message machine memory is full of messages?

When my husband died, I kept his voice message on my answering machine. I accidently erased the voice message, and haven't been able to get it back. To hear his voice answer when someone called was...

well there is a solution... But it depends, is your machine uses a tape or digital recording device.
If it is a tape, than it can be a very tricky. You will need to contact some kind of recording studio as in music or news studio or police forensic (if you have friends there) and they might be able to retrieve it. If it is a digital than it is simple, all you need to do is to go to any computer place and ask them to recover a lost data. they will transfer it to a storage device such as flash drive and that's it, although it might cost you up to $300-$400.

How do i retrieve messages when out of town, from my v-tech 5.8 & can i use my cell phone to do this ?

If I remember correctly you can remotely connect to your answering machine.
When you call the phone and it greets you (assuming you haven't changed the code) press 19 to get it going.
You should then begin to hear your messages. After you get past the 19 part (options are as follows)
1 ) Plays all messages 2 ) Plays only new messages 3 ) (During playback) Deletes the current message 33 ) Deletes ALL OLD messages 4 ) Repeats current message 5 ) Stop 5 ) (While no message being played) Lists Available Commands 6 ) Skips to next message 7 ) (While no message being played) Record new greeting 8 ) Hang up 0 ) Turn Answering Machine on/off

How do you set up the message for the answering machine? Lost the instructions that came with the unit. I know the phone has a menu, but not sure if this is where I would program the answering machine.

Greeting message
When the unit answers a call, callers
are greeted by a greeting message. You
can record your own greeting message
or use a prerecorded greeting
message.
Recording your greeting
message
You can record your own greeting
message (max. 2 minutes and 30
seconds). If you do not record a
greeting message, a prerecorded
greeting message is used.
1 {MENU}
2 {V}/{^}: “Answering device” i
{OK}
3 {V}/{^}: “Record greeting” i
{OK}
4 After the handset beeps, speak
clearly about 20 cm (8 inches) away
from the microphone.
5 To stop recording, press {OK}.
6 {OFF}
Using a prerecorded greeting
message
If you erase or do not record your own
greeting message, the unit plays a
prerecorded greeting message for
callers and ask them to leave
messages.

Panasonic kx-tg2740 cordless phone - how to change message?

  • Step 1Begin the recording process by first locating the "Change" button on your answering machine. This button initializes the answering machine for adjustments to the settings of the various features.
  • Step 2:Locate the microphone on your answering machine and lean towards it until you are about nine inches away.
  • Step 3:Locate the "Annc" button. Press and hold the "Annc" button until it beeps. Begin recording your message.
  • Step 4:Watch the message window while you are recording your message. It keeps track of how much time has elapsed since you began recording. You can record a message that is up to three minutes long.
  • Step 5:Locate the "Stop" button and press it when you have finished recording your message. The answering machine will play your message back at this point. If you are not satisfied with your message, repeat the steps to record it again.
  • Step 6:Press "Annc" if you want to listen to your message again.
i found this i hope it helps

The pre recorded message on the answering machine has been lost.

I read thru the manual. There is nothing bout recovery of factory messages. If you recorded your own, try deleting it. Or unplug the base from power and try a reset. This is from the manual. At the end, I gave you a link to the manual!

Using a pre-recorded greeting
message
If you erase or do not record your own
greeting message, the unit plays a prerecorded
greeting message for callers
and asks them to leave messages. If the
message recording time (page 39) is set
to “Greeting only”, caller messages
are not recorded and the unit plays a
different pre-recorded greeting message
asking callers to call again.

I'm assuming this is a digital recorder and does not use a tape. Any chance the memory is full and you need to erase messages to free up space for new recordings?
