Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5100 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

Could not load software. Paper jam damaged print head.

Even with help from Kodak, I could not load their Easy Share software on a machine running Windows XP. Without Easy Share software, I could not load the driver for the scanner. The printer worked fine for about a dozen nice prints, then had a paper jam. After unjamming, it refused to print magenta, even after many cleanings, new cartridges, and many more cleanings. Kodak supplied a new print head.
My question is: what do you do with an almost new all-in-one that requires a new print head every time it has a paper jam?
My solution: replace it with an Epson Workforce 600 all-in-one. All the software loaded faultlessly. And the machine is a dream to work with. If the ink costs a little more, so be it. That dozen prints on the Kodak ended up costing $10 each.
That leaves just one problem - the moral issue of what to do with the almost new Kodak 5100. Is it fair to sell it, along with the new print head, to some unsuspecting bozo who might or might not be able to use it, or should I put an axe through it and send it to the dump?

Do the right thing, sell it on eBay but tell it like it is in the ad. Someone is bound to buy it and fix it.

Will not print

The Kodak EasyShare line of printers is designed to be user friendly and is intended for novice computer users. The printers feature direct camera-to-printer connections, easy-to-use software, and simple paper loading. If you are having issues with your Kodak EasyShare printer, here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

Update EasyShare Software

If your printer is new or it has been awhile since you have used it, your software may be out of date. This can cause your printer to respond slowly (or not at all) and may interfere with online functionality. To update your Kodak EasyShare software, go to the link in the Resource section and click on the "Download" link to automatically install the latest software.
Printer Interior Is Dirty

Although its easy to think that all electronics are clean and streamlined, for most printers this simply isn't the case. After frequent use, ink smears and splatters will line your printhead. This can cause your printed documents to appear blotchy, uneven or streaky. Luckily, cleaning your print head is a snap. Simply open the EasyShare program and select "Print Head Cleaning" to run the manual print head cleaning operation. For a deeper clean, you can open the top of the printer and clean the bottoms of the ink cartridges (as well as the print bar) with some moist cotton swabs.
Printer Needs to Be Recalibrated

When a printer is calibrated, the print head has been set to work with a specific type of paper and is in the optimum position for printing documents with crisp, clear lines. However, after frequent use, the calibration may fade, and you'll notice your document printing close to one side, or text and images going off the page. To fix this, you will have to recalibrate the printer by removing the printhead and ink cartridges. Replace the printhead by pressing it firmly back into place until you hear a snap. When the printer initializes, press the "Menu" button, and then choose "Calibrate Printer." Your printer should reposition the print head, and a test page will print out. If everything looks straight, your printer has been recalibrated successfully. If not, you may want to contact Kodak Support via its website. See the Resource section for a link.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

My Kodak easy share 5300 won't print black. I have clean the head and still have the problem.

Clean the print head then print a demo sheet.

  1. Verify that inkjet paper is loaded in the paper trays.
  2. On your desktop, start the KODAK All-in-One Home Center, then select the Help [?] icon.
  3. From the Help menu, select Maintenance, then select Print head Cleaning. The On/Off light flashes green during the cleaning procedure.
  4. When the On/Off light glows a steady green, press Photo and Copy simultaneously to print a demo sheet.
If the Demo print is bad- IE: no black, blurry print etc., then you may need to replace the print head:

Contact Kodak for a replacement:

My one year old Kodak Easy share 5300 printer only print out plank paper there is no ink showing even i have new cartridges,

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Normal 0 Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
