Question about Dirt Devil M085580 Featherlite Plus Upright Vacuum
Clean the hair off the bearings. Remove the brush. Pry off the end caps and remove the hair under and around the bearings. I used a kitchen fork.

The manual is confusing - I had the same problem. Make sure you put the belt around the smaller motor axle, not the lever arm attached to the on/off foot switch. It's a bit counter-intuitive, but that was my problem with this. Jeff

SOURCE: i keep replacing the belt
i think your talking about the motor spindel,,(the little metal bit?) if the motor is that hot its going to burn out soon, check that the brush is free to turn if its tight free it off its full of grit or fluff also check that the motor turns freely
