That sounds like a computer problem, not a monitor problem.  Plug the 'old' monitor in and see if your computer will boot with it.

Not sure if this is your problem, but I have seen this with another Dell monitor on three separate occasions. The solution I found was to turn off at the wall power socket, unplug at the wall socket, plug back in, turn on at socket etc and everything was fine. Guess something hangs up somewhere.

The monitor is coming on, saying there is no signal being recieved when the cable linking the monitor and screen is in fine working condition, and then turns itself into standby mode. Can this be fixed?

yes it can, the lcd is not communicating with the cpu. check the cpu with a known working screen. check the data cable also, if all not changing anything check the lcd pc board, if not sure about this take it in for repairs. Be careful when handling power circuits!

We can not seem to get it to recognise our new hp pc.

Start the New PC in safe mode. In safe mode the PC will have low resolution, and must be seen in any monitor.

If you cannot see safe mode picture, then check the cables. If you can see picture in safe mode, go to Personalize in control panel, find printer settings and lower resolution and change screen size.

Can't get it to work with windows 98

you should run window in safe mode because it should work in safe mode if the problem is of window...
if it works then u need to remove the last installed programe....then boot it normally
Was it working fine with the same windows before....if yes then do the above procedure and if it was not working since beginning then u need to check monitor itself...unplug the vga cable when the monitor power is on, it should show something...

the monitor is working ok if it goes to safe mode with no input.which do you turn on first?(to work out which could be faulty)It is most likely that the monitor data cable is the fault(at either end) or the PC m'bd disp skt,try pluging an add on disp'card in to the PC. Regards Chook.
